Birds which are classified as a parrot are those who have a curved beak. No wonder why sometimes they are called hookbills. Also, they must have zygodactyl feet. What does it mean? It means that each foot has four toes with two facing forward and two facing backward. It is a little bit like the opposable thumb and fingers of humans. By having these things make parrots able to manipulate things well on their feet.

The size of parrots are various. It ranges from some of the small 5 inch lovebirds to the large macaws, some of which can be 40 inches long, head to tail. Even sometimes, the look of the male and female is completely different such as the Eclectus.

One of the major characteristics of parrots is beak. Parrots are very skillful in using their beak. Their beak is used to hold things, climb, manipulate things and to eat. If the diet and habitat of a parrot do not keep the beak worn down, it needs to be trimmed. It is done to prevent overgrowth.
