It is important for you to know that your remote is designed to be able to control a lot of audio or video devices. If you want to use your remote, of course you have to program it.There are two methods that you can use to program the remote. Those methods include Direct Code Entry and Auto Code Search. You are able to choose the one that you want.
What is the difference between these methods? Well, direct code entry method is a method for programming your remote and this method is recommended to use because it is the simplest and quickest method. Then, what is the auto code search method? If you use this method, it will search through all the codes in the remote to discover a code for your device.
The Steps To Program GE Universal Remote by Using Direct Code Entry Method
If you want to program your GE universal remote using direct code entry method, the guide below will help you to do that.
- The first thing that you have to do is to find the code list included with your remote. You have to find the section for the type of device that you want to control such as TV, DVD, CBL, AUX. You have to find the brand of your device and then circle all the remote codes for the brand.
- After that, the thing that you have to do is to press and hold down the Setup button on the remote until you see there is the red light on the remote control. After seeing the red light, then you are able to release the Setup button. And you will see that the red light will be still on.
- In this step, you have to press and release the device button on the remote for the type of device that you want to control such as TV, CBL, DVD or AUX. You will see that the red light blinks once and it remains on.
- Now, you have to use the number button on the remote to enter the first 4-digit remote code that you find above or you have circled in the code list. And then, you will see that the red light will turn off after you enter the code.
- After entering the code, now you have to aim the remote at the device. You have to test the buttons on the remote to see whether the device can respond as you expect. If you see that the buttons do not operate the device, you are able to go back to the step 2 above and then you can use the next code that you circled for that device.
- You are able to repeat the steps 1 to 5 for each device that you want to control.
The Steps to Program GE Universal Remote with Auto Code Search

- When you aim the remote at the device, you have to press and release the Power button on the remote. The remote will send 10 different codes to the device and you will see the red light will blink once for each code and it will be on after sending the 10 codes. If you see that the device turns off, you have to go on to the next step. But, if you see that the device does not turn off, you have to repeat step 4 to test the next 10 codes.
- Now, you have to turn the device back on manually.
- With the remote which aimed at the device, you have to press and release the VOL + button. Then, the remote will resend the first code of the 10 codes from step 4. You will see that the red light blinks once and remains on. In this step, if you see the device turn off, you have found a code for the device. You have to press and release the similar device button that you pressed in step 3. It will store the code in the remote. And now, you have to go to step 7. But, if your device does not turn off, you have to continue to press and release the VOL+ button until you will see the device turn off to test the other 9 codes from step 4. You have to make sure to wait about 3 seconds after each VOL+ button press to permit the device time to respond to the code. When the device turns off, you have found a code for your device. So, you have to press and release the similar device button pressed in step 3. It will save the code in the remote. Now, you can go to step 7.
- In this step, you have to use the remote to turn the device back on. You have to test the buttons on the remote to check whether the device can respond as you expect.
