Roblox Logo History and Meaning
The history of the visual identity of today’s popular online game has changed its name four times during its existence. According to history, David Baszucki, the inventor of Roblox once created an Interactive Physics tutorial application. After that, he decided to develop a 3D game design platform. Initially, he chose the name GoBlocks. Then, changed its name to DynaBlocks. After some time, the platform was renamed Roblox.
The platform was intended to develop video games, thus the Roblox logo had meaning connected with it. ‘Robots’ is shorthand for the figures operated by the player, ‘blocks’ is for the parts which make up the game. Roblox’s history is fast-paced. The Roblox logo was changed 10 times. However, the changes were not always big.
1989 – 2007
The Roblox game’s history has originally started in 1989, with the name ‘Interactive Physics.’ Thus, the first logo in Roblox history was the badge of the original project. The project stayed active until 2007. The logo consisted of a two-tiered font with the bold cursive letters “Physics” in dark red overlapping with the bottom of the black uppercase letters “Interactive”, created with a sleek typeface and serifs.
2003
In 2003, David Baszucki changed the platform’s name became GoBlocks. Its logo was consisted of a simple inscription with “Go” in green, “Blocks” in dark blue, and “alpha” in light blue. Later, in the same year, another logo was created. The badge of its alpha version was created in dark blue and green. The bold “GoBlocks” and the small lowercase “Alpha” created in the same typeface.
2003 – 2004
In the same year, the GoBlocks platform was renamed DynaBlocks. Its new emblem featured a bold sans-serif font. And, each letter of the logo was colored differently; red, green, blue, orange, lime, light blue, and purple.
