There is a problem occurring on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare affecting the users who are trying to play the Multiplayer mode. On PC, Playstation, and Xbox consoles, some users are being asked to buy the main game again even if they already have ownership to play the Multiplayer mode and the SinglePlayer campaign. By the way, how to fix Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer not working? Well, here we are going to share some methods to fix it.
Fixing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Not Working?
Here is a list of methods to fix Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer not working:
Method 1: Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Separately (if applicable)
This has been an ongoing issue ever since Activision decided to incorporate Modern Warfare Multiplayer and Warzone inside Call of Duty Cold War. There are some users reporting that the Multiplayer component of Modern Warfare is not accessible via the Cold War launcher. Fortunately, there is a solution which works for PC and both consoles. Simply the users are able to try running the game separately (from its dedicated launcher) and not from COD War.
If you are experiencing this problem while trying to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the Cold War launcher, just stay away from it. Instead, you are able to launch the game from its dedicated launcher. This is confirmed to work on PC and both consoles. If you are on PC, you are able to double-click on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare executable. If you are on a console, you are able to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from its dedicated listing and not from the Cold War interface.
Method 2: Clear the Cache of Your Console or Game Launcher (Consoles and PC)
This problem is most likely associated with a cache issue. Most likely, you have installed Call of Duty: Warzone first, and now the temporary files generated by this game version are preventing your system from knowing the ownership of the paid version of Modern Warfare. This issue occurs on PC and both consoles. It is affecting the ability of users to play any multiplayer mode (other than Call of Duty: Warzone).
You will be able to fix the problem quickly by clearing the cache of your console or game launcher on PC. Of course, the instructions for doing that will be different depending on which console you are using or if you are on PC using Steam or Battle.Net.
To clear the cached data on Playstation 5:
- With your Playstation 5 console fully turned ON, you have to long-press the power button on your console until you hear a beep and wait until it powers down. For note: If you short press the power button, then you are going to enter rest mode.
- After the lights on your Playstation 5 console are fully turned off, you have to unplug the power cord from the back of your console.
- Please wait for two minutes or more to give your power capacitors enough time to clear themselves. Warning: This operation is absolutely crucial because it will make your console ‘forget’ the cached data.
- After the time period is passed, you are able to plug the power code back into your Playstation 5 console, just hit the power button, and then wait until it turns itself back on.
- Once your console boots back on, simply you are able to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare once again and see if you are able to access the multiplayer component.
Method 3: Updating the Licences (Only on Playstation)
If you are having the problem on a Playstation console and none of the ways above have been effective in your issue, then you have to consider the fact that you are dealing with a licensing issue. We get information that Sony’s consoles are recognized for being bad at keeping the trap of your digital media ownership. Remember this case, if you started off playing Call of Duty: Warzone and only recently bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, your console might not yet be aware that you actually have the rights to access the multiplayer component.
This problem will be fixed by itself after a while, but you are able to speed up the process considerably by updating the licences. Apparently, the procedure of restoring your Playstation Store licences is different depending on your console. So, if you cannot access the multiplayer component of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and none of the ways above have been effective in your issue, just update your Playstation Licences.
Method 4: Install Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Pack (PS5/ Xbox Series Only)
There are many confusions around the requirements of playing the Multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It is because Activision has changed the games of the packs. As we know, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a big game on next-gen consoles, so the developers have already decided to split the games into the packages which you are able to install or separately to preserve precious system space. To make sure that you have all required packages to be able to play the Multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we suggest you look at the size of the packages rather than the name of the packages.
Here are the packages which you need to have:
- Base Game (90.2 GB)
- Multiplayer Pack (6.0 GB)
- Multiplayer & Special Ops Pack (6.7 GB)
- Multiplayer Pack 2 (22.1 GB)
For those who are missing any of those packs, then you are going to be rejected or denied access to the multiplayer component of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Therefore, to make sure that you have every required package installed, you need to install required Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Packs on your console (PlayStation5 or Xbox Series).
