Multiplayer servers of Blizzard are being attacked. The gamers are being informed to avoid the game online services for Call of Duty, Overwatch, and more.
COD Warzone Ddos Attack
For the second time, Blizzard’s Battle.net services are seemingly under a DDoS attack. The gamers began having the problems approximately at 10 PM EST, where the players began noticing a sudden spike in disconnects. Besides Call of Duty Warzone, the game of Overwatch also was seeing disconnects in the Competitive playlist. And the players were losing SR as a result.
Also, DownDetector viewed a really high spike in outage reports earlier in the night, however quickly tapered off again. Even though the reports to the outage tracker website decreased with time, the players would still have difficulties to access the multiplayer game they were on prior to the outages. Nevertheless, the players are still reporting lagging on social media because the servers still be unstable the problem. After that, Blizzard Support Employee confirmed on the forums of Blizzard that the cause of the outage was a DOS or DDoS attack.
Apparently, the affected games to be focused on Hearthstone, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft. There is less discussion on Call of Duty social media regarding interruptions of service, however DownDetector showed a spike of outage reports from those players as well. The Blizzard Customer Support Twitter page has not talked anything about the DDoS attack. Liz Richardson of Dot Esports noted that the attack was being felt on Overwatch Competitive lobbies around 10 PM EST and also escalated into a full notice on the Battle.net PC Launcher by 12 AM EST. The Blizzard Support Employee said that as time went on, the problems extended into other Battle.net services like the store. Around 2 AM EST, the Blizzard Support employee posted that the worst of the storm was over, but continued to advise caution.
Over the holiday, Battle.net was hit with a DDoS attack which inconvenienced players, especially Call of Duty: Warzone players who wanted to maximize on the Double XP weekend. Similar that attack, the most recent attack seemed short-lived however residual issues will be able to linger for some hours after the attack. Although the servers are stabilizing, the gamers are best to leave their own respective games for the night, at least. In the case of COD Warzone, every disconnect and failure to rejoin the lobby results in lost SR. In fact, the ban timer improves for every occurrence. Thus, it is best not to keep trying your luck with problems still occurring. A DOS or DDoS is the last thing that Blizzard want to deal with right now because the company continues to deal with internal issue.
DoS and DDoS attacks on Xbox
For those who play the games on Xbox network, then you may get a DOS or DDoS attack. That attacks will be able to make your Xbox console or your computer unable to connect to the Xbox network or the internet temporarily.
For those who have experienced a DoS or DDoS attack, we highly recommend you to reset your router and then contact your internet service provider. For those who know who attacked you, then you are able to report them to Xbox to avoid them in the future.
If you feel your personal safety is at risk, simply you are able to contact local law enforcement immediately. To report someone, you are able to press the Xbox button to open the guide and discover them in People. Choose them, then choose Report or block.
What is DOS or DDOS Attack?
In a DoS or DDOS attack, the attackers will flood the IP address of the targeted device including an Xbox console or a computer with the external useless communication requests from some devices, making an information log jam which blocks network connections on the targeted device. That attacks are not directed at the Xbox network. They are directed at the IP address of the targeted device.
Sometimes, DoS or DDoS attacks are used as retaliation after online multiplayer gaming. DoS or DDoS attackers occasionally threaten the players with comments such as “I’m going to flood your IP,” “I’m going to IP boot you,”or “I’m going to boot you off the internet.”
What Should I Do to Prevent DDOS Attack?
Here are some things that you can do to avoid a DOS or DDOS attack:
-
- You do not use apps which might expose your network’s IP address. Social applications, including some online multiplayer games and VoIP software, are likely to expose your IP to everyone in your session.
- You should utilize a virtual private network or VPN. This is a service which encrypts your internet traffic and protects your online identity. The service will be able to route your connection through a remote server instead of your ISP. Also, a VPN hides your IP address and encrypts all data you send and receive.
- You have to avoid using Wi-Fi hotspots. Even if they are secure and password-protected, the hackers have many methods to intercept internet traffic.
- On your computer, you have to run virus and malware scanners regularly by using trusted software.
How Do I Know If I Have Been Attacked?
If your console experiences a DoS or DDoS attack, you may will not be able to connect to Xbox services from your console, and also all internet connectivity in your house is going to be down.
How Can I End a DOS or DDOS attack?
If you are currently having a DoS or DDoS attack, you are able to try resetting your router (your DSL or cable modem) that may stop attack. A complete reset needs turning off the power for 5 to 10 minutes. This is going to increase the likelihood that you are going to get a new IP address, which the attacker will not have access to. If you still get the DoS or DDoS attack after resetting your modem, we suggest you to contact your ISP.
