Even though it is one of the underloved staffs in Origins, the Lighting Staff can in fact bind and kill many zombies with one shot at a time. To function as a zombie shooter at once, the Lightning Staff must be upgraded first by following a series of steps.
Upgrading the base version of the Lightning Staff to its ultimate version means you’ve attempted to finish off the hordes of zombies. However, you’ll have to solve the puzzle as the main step in upgrading the Lighting Staff. Since solving the puzzle really wastes your time, thankfully, we’ll show you the Lightning Staff codes as the puzzle solutions to save your time.

Okay, here’s everything you need to know about the Lightning Staff codes, how to upgrade and get the Lightning Staff!
Lightning Staff Codes: How to Use Them to Upgrade It?
Solving the puzzle is the first step you need to pass when upgrading the Lightning Staff. This step allows you to shoot the purple triangles. You can start by going to the Crazy Place and noticing the sequences of purple triangles by the purple portal area.
There, you will find a note forming the first upgrade puzzle, which is luckily always the same every game. To solve the puzzle, you have to ignore the top row of notes and number the bottom row from 1 to 7.
Now, you can use the Lightning Staff to shoot the notes in the correct order shown below:
-
- 1, 3, 6
- 3, 5, 7
- 2, 4, 6
If you hit all three sequences in the correct order, you will receive an audio quote from Samantha that lets you know you’re done. Then, the ground will immediately shake.
Afterwards, you can go around the map to look for sparking panel dials to turn. If you’re willing, you can also turn these off whenever you want. However, you may need to repeatedly find and check eight different panels to look for the next sparking dial.
To find the sparkling panel dials, you need to follow the exact locations on the cheat sheet, as follows:
Dial Position | Location |
⇐Left | Spawn room near stairs |
⇓ Down | Generator 2 (Tank Station Building) at the back door. |
⇓ Down | Generator 5 opposite Stamin-Up machine |
⇑ Up | Behind the Excavation Site, near the path to the Church |
⇒ Right | Behind the tank under Church |
⇑ Up | Upstairs in the Church |
⇑ Up | Generator 4 (Jug) right hand side of wind tunnel entrance |
Once all the panel dials are facing the correct direction, the sparks will automatically stop. You will then hear Samantha. Now, you can come back to the bottom of the excavation site, where you will find a purple orb floating at the bottom of the rings.
Make sure to go around and interact with the levers here until the rings are lit up purple. Now, you can go to the orb and shoot it with the Lightning Staff. Then see that it will float into the ceiling.
For the last step, you have to go to the Crazy Place. Then, put the Lightning Staff on the pedestal from which you obtained the Crystal earlier. Finally, you can now kill hordes of zombies to transfer their souls to your Lightning Staff.
If it is enough, the inventory box of the staff will automatically light up, confirming that you’re done. Of course, you can really do it from any part of the Crazy Place, but you should be careful with the shifting walls and avoid letting them trap you.
How to Get the Lightning Staff?
Before you can upgrade the Lightning Staff, you surely need to get it first. To obtain the Lightning Staff, you will need 3 Purple parts: 1 black disc, 1 Purple colored disc, and the gramophone. Certainly, you need to collect all of these before you can build the base version of the Lightning Staff.
Let’s do the following steps to get the Lightning Staff!
Step 1: Find Purple Parts
Usually, the Purple parts are well-hidden in the Origins map. And, these can only be accessed by riding the tank and jumping off onto secret platforms. To do this, it will charge you a few points and quite a bit of waiting when the tank refills to complete a full lap.
Here are the exact three locations while you’re riding the tank:
-
- Part 1: Once you’ve ridden past Generator 4, you need to wait until you’re halfway along the muddy path. Then, you need to jump to the right side, onto the wooden platform.
- Part 2: You can then ride the tank from Generator 2 (the tank station). When you approach the excavation site, you need to look for the wooden platform on your left. To claim the part, you need to jump across and walk above the excavation site.
- Part 3: When you approach the church, you need to jump to the right side of the tank onto the snowy road with a broken fence. Make sure to work your way behind the church and claim its part.
Step 2: Find the Purple Disc
After all of the purple parts are collected, you also need to find the purple disc. It is usually found in one of the three locations near Generator 4 (Jug).
-
- At the very bottom of the wind tunnel.
- On a table near the Wunderfizz machine.
- On the wagon, near the Generator 4 entrance.
Step 3: Find the Black Disc
After finding the purple disc, you need to find the black disc. This is definitely used in combination with the gramophone to unlock the lower level of the excavation site. Well, you can find it in one of three locations:
-
- On a box, the bottom of the walkway to the excavation site (Generator 2 side).
- In a box, across from the excavation site, near the entrance to the church.
- The top of the excavation site, in a wheelbarrow next to the PaP.
Step 4: Find the Gramophone
Usually, a gramophone can be found inside the central excavation site—one level down on the floor.
Step 5: Build the Purple Portal
Now, you have to go to the tunnel by using Generator 5 (Stamin-Up). Then, go underground to the very end of the tunnel. Make sure to put the gramophone down on the table to build the purple portal, which will take you to the Crazy Place.
After that, you can go through the portal to the Crazy Place and pick up the crystal from the purple pedestal. Then, you need to leave the Crazy Place by rebuilding the purple portal again. Last, you need to go to the lower level of the excavation site to build the Lightning Staff in front of the statues.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully obtained and built the base version of the Lightning Staff.
