If you want to grow a shrub, you have to follow the steps below.

- The first thing that you have to do is to buy shrub starts from Leif.
- After buying the shrub starts, then you have to pick an area in the grass where you want to grow a shrub. It is important for you to know that shrubs need soil to be able to grow so that you cannot plant them on the beach.
- Now, you have to dig a hole by using a shovel. Actually, you do not have to dig a hole. However, it will help you to specify where you want to plant your shrubs.
- In this step, you have to choose the shrub start from your inventory.
- After choosing the shrub, then you have to press A button to choose “Plant 1”.
- You have to do these steps until all of your shrub starts have been planted.
The important thing that you need to note about planting shrubs in Animal Crossing New Horizon is that it is not like trees which need space for the roots to grow. If you plant shrubs, you can do that side by side like flowers.
Getting Shrub Starts from Leif
Shrub starts can be bought from Leif’s Garden Shop. This character will come to your island randomly during the Nature Day event period. The shrub that Leif sells changes every time he comes to your island.
When you plant the shrub, you have to know that it needs 3 day to fully grow. As explained in the steps above, you cannot plant shrubs on the beach. If you do that, they will not grow. Also, you are not able to transplant fully-grown shrubs on the beach.

So, you have to make sure to purchase a bunch when Leif is visiting.
