What Will Happen If I Place Structures too Close to Each Other
If you access Reddit, you will find that someone asked something related to placing structures too close to each other. The person wrote that she or he wanted to move her or his resident’s home but just slightly to the right and when he or she tried to place the moving kit, it said it’s too close another building ( the other building being the one he or she was trying to move so this made no sense). He or she asked for tips about it.
And then, another user answered that he or she will have to move the building twice. This person wrote that once away and then slightly to the right. Furthermore, this person said that it does not move it automatically it places down a spot for it and the original building stays until the next day.

Unlocking Moving Buildings
Do you want to unlock moving buildings? If yes, according to the IGN site, you need to help Tom Nook in his many tasks until he is ready to upgrade Resident Services from a tent to a bespoke building where it includes tasks such as building Nook’s Cranny, constructing a bridge, and furnishing three villager homes.
If the Resident Services has been upgraded, then Tom Nook will move to a Construction Consultation counter. After that, he will help you decide what to build next or what to move.
The Things To Do To Move Buildings and Structures
According to the IGN site, if you want to move buildings and structures, you have to speak to Tom Nook inside Resident Services and then you have to tell him “let’s talk infrastructure.” And then, when it is on this list, you have to tell him that you ‘want layout changes’. You also have to say that you want to move a building, and you will get to choose from a list of existing structures where it includes any Villager houses, the Museum, Nook’s Cranny and so on. After that, a kit will be given to you to determine where to move the building to.
As also explained on the IGN site, here is what you have to know about the process of moving a building.

- As of Update 2.0, the cost for moving a building is 10,000 Bells.
- There are some buildings that cannot be moved such as the Resident Services building, the Airport and the Plaza. When you chose your island at the beginning of the game, these were determined and cannot be changed.
- Let’s say that you want to move your own home. If so, you will have to pick “About my home…” instead of “I want layout changes”. Otherwise, the process will be similar.
- Let’s say that you have second thoughts. If so, you have to talk to Tom Nook again before finalizing where you want to place the building. You have to return the kit to him and then he will refund your Bells.
- After you have placed the plot for a building, you are not able to take it back. It means that it is important for you to be sure that you are moving it to the best spot.
- It is different with the process of upgrading the Museum, Nook’s Cranny or Resident Service, if you move a building, it will not render it unavailable for a day.
- It is important for you to note that the destination of your building must be at least one tile away from any existing building including the building that you are trying to move in its current position.
- Make sure that the building is not close to cliffs, water, rocks, the slope on the edge of the beach and so on. If you want, you are able to place buildings on the beach.
- Objects like weeds, trees, and furniture will be deleted automatically. However, you are able to discover them again inside the recycling box inside Resident Services.
- It is important for you to note that not all buildings have the similar size. Houses and the Campsites are the smallest and then followed by Able Sisters, then Nook’s Cranny and the Museum which are both the biggest buildings that you are able to move.
On the IGN site, it is also explained that when you choose to move a building, you are not able to place the new building if it’s touching the existing building that you are trying to move. It means that if you wish to move a structure slightly to the side, firstly you have to move it somewhere else entirely, and then back again where you have to pay two different fees over two days.
