How to Fix Aternos Lag?

There are many ways you can do to fix Aternos Server Lag. Just continue to read the following text to find out the information you need.

How To Fix Aternos Lag?

Use Paper

For your information, PaperMC is a software that contains some enhancements over the vanilla version to increase performance. In addition, it supports the installation of plugins. You are able to install it here: aternos.org/software/papermc/. However, PaperMC does not fix all issues and the performance is still not outstanding but still worth the switch. Remember that the rule that the newer the version the better also applies here. They always contain the latest improvements and corrections.

Check your plugins or mods

You have to know that too many or misused plugins or mods are able to cause server lags. In this case, you need to make sure to install a reasonable amount of plugins. Also, you do not make too many worlds. Mod features, for instance: machines or chunk loaders are able to cause lags. To signify the problem, you will be able to click his link; aternos.org/log).

Aside from that, it is possible that a single mod comprises a bug. Or it is not really performance and causes on its own to slow down your server. For this case, you have to try removing mod by mod to discover if you are affected by plugins/mods.

Remove Plugins

The more users and plugins you have the more RAM you will require. If you have many plugins but you do not have a lot of RAM, then you are going to overload your server causing it to have lag spikes or crash. The best thing that you should do is to limit the amount of plugins you need to run your server, because several plugins such as Survival Games will use up to 1GB of RAM.

Do you use a modpack? Check it

Apparently, the developer always tries to get the best possible balance between their limited resources (since they are free and they do not want to change that) and the best performance. Particularly for modpacks, this is hard to achieve. They test the modpacks in our system to make sure that they are at least starting and that basic playing is possible. Due to the modpacks are a bit different and also the load on the host systems is different so that they cannot guarantee anything. However, they decided to still offer modpacks on our platform because they want to offer as many options to customize your server as possible and most of the modpacks are nice playable most of the time.

Gameplay

During the game, there are a few ways that you can do to reduce lags. For instance, mobs have a big impact on performance. However, we do not suggest you to keep many mobs (animals or monsters). Just limit yourself to a few. Also, loading chunks own a huge impact on performance.

  • Exploring

If you explore the new areas, it may cause large lag spikes and massively decrease the performance.

  • Loaded chunks

It is worth reducing the number of chunks loaded, especially if you play with several users on one server. If there are many users close to each other, it is better for performance than if there are many users far away from each other. We have shared the information regarding the number of loaded chunks for 1.13 and newer servers.

ClearLag

This plugin is great and configurable. It is recommended for any server. You will be able to find ClearLag on Bukkit here.

    • After having ClearLag installed you are able to run the command “lagg check” to view how many entities you have on your server.
    • If you run a small server, anything over the value 500 can be the reason for your server lag.
    • If you do have a high number of entities, you are able to run the command “lagg clear” and “lagg killmobs”. This will be able to delete the lag causing entities from your server, for example: the items on the ground and mobs.

Reduce Your View Distance

If you want to fix Aternos lag, we suggest you reduce the view distance of your server from the default 10 to a value between 6-8.

Check your internet connection

If your internet connection is bad or temporarily overloaded, it can be a reason why your server gets lags. Now, you will be able to test this by playing on other servers and then check if there are any lags. Usually, Internet lag is a result of being geographically far from the server host. It means that the electrical impulses take lots of milliseconds to achieve the server and then have to travel all that way back. We are able to say that there can be a lag between input from your PC to it appearing on your screens.

So, how do you do to fix this latency lag? To check your latency with a server, you are able to log onto Minecraft. Then, add the server you want to test to your list of servers. After it is added, there will be a small icon in the top right on the server field. If you hover over the icon it is going to tell you the ping of the server. Latency lag is once you are too far away from your server so the connection is slightly delayed. Please check your server and see if you are the closest you can be to our servers. If you see that any of our server locations are closer to you than your current server’s location, just enter a ticket and request a transfer free of charge.
