Disabling acrotray.exe from the Task Manager is the simple method. There is a tab in the Task Manager for the startup. The AcroTray is able to be easily checked in the list and disable it. Before anything, make sure that Task Manager is run as administrator.
In order to disable the acrotray.exe from the Task Manager, the first thing that you have to do is to hold Windows key and press R to open Run. When it opens, type “taskmgr” and press Enter to open the Task Manager. Once the Task Manager has been opened, you will have to go to the Startup tab in the Task Manager and look for AcroTray. Once you have found it, right click on AcroTray and choose Disable. After clicking the Disable button, it is time for you to restart your computer and it will not startup anymore.
Disabling acrotray.exe from the Task Manager is not the only way to disable AcroTray. There are some other ways that you might want to try. In this page, you will be informed about two other methods: disabling Adobe AcroTray by using Autoruns and disabling Adobe AcroTray from Services.
If it is your first time hearing about Autoruns, it is the name of a utility that allows you to track and control all programs that begin automatically with the Windows startup. For those who are unable to find the AcroTray in the Task Manager or its not working, this utility is able to be used easily to turn it off for startup.
To be able to download the latest version of Autoruns, the first thing that should be done is to go to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns and download the file. Once you have downloaded it, extract the download file using WinRAR. In case there is no WinRAR installed on your system, you can just open the zipped folder by double clicking. In the next step, open the extracted folder, and then right click on the Autoruns64.exe and select Run as Administrator. After that, look for Acrobat Assistant (AcroTray) and untick it from the list. When everything is done, please restart your computer and it will not startup anymore.
If you want to try disabling Adobe AcroTray from Service, you are able to change some of the Adobe services that are set to run automatically. Changing these services to manual is good to help in stopping the AcroTray from running at startup. Before using this method, do not forget to make sure that you are logged into a Windows PC as an administrator.
First of all, hold the Windows key and press R at once to open Run. When it opens, enter “service.msc” and press Enter. You will need to find Adobe Acrobat Update and Adobe Genuine Software Integrity services in the list. Once you have found them, right click on each of them one by one and select Properties. The next thing that you should do is to change the startup type to Manual for both. Lastly, restart your computer and AcroTray probably will not start anymore.
Adobe Acrobat is known as a program that allows you to view, create, manipulate, print, and manage files in the PDF format. This one is usually used in some different kinds of fields, including IT, business, educational documentation, and administrative services. However, you will get a software component called AcroTray installed with the thing named Adobe Acrobat. It will load automatically on the startup without any need to use it.
For those who are not really familiar with AcroTray or Adobe Acrobat Tray Icon, it can be described as an extension of the Adobe Acrobat. The program is used to open and convert the PDF files to some different kinds of formats. This one will automatically startup when the operating system is booted. It will show up the notifications every time you try to right click or try to convert any PDF file. Aside from that, it is also used to keep track of updates for Adobe Acrobat. The file is able to be found in the Acrobat installed directory.
Why do you have to make AcroTray Assistant disabled from startup? There are a few different reasons due to which users will want to make it disabled from the startup. Here are most of the reported reasons:
- It makes startup slow for computers: When a computer of a user is turned on, several programs will automatically start to run in the background which will use the memory of the computer and will make the startup slow the computer.
- It is rarely used: AcroTray Assistant is not frequently used in daily life. Opening this program only when you need it will be a better option rather than keeping it always open all the time for no particular reason.
- It can be a malware: A few malwares can disguise itself under the same name as AcroTray if it is located in the system Windows folder.
- It consumes memory for no reason: Some people claim that it drains the power of CPU and memory that is able to immediately slow down the performance of the system.
If you are not sure whether to disable AcroTray or not, you can check if it is not a malicious file. To check it, there are some downloadable tools such as the Security Task Manager or Emsisoft Anti-Malware as recommended by Microsoft Partners. Once you have downloaded the Security Task Manager, you need to run it to examine the active AcroTray process on your computer and know what it is doing. Then, run an anti-malware tool to check if the executable file is showing the unwanted ads that are slowing down your computer. It is really important because some antivirus software does not consider AcroTray as a virus and that’s why it will not be marked for cleanup. After that, run the Windows Repair Tool in order to repair the errors related to AcroTray.exe on Windows.
