The Shanty emote has been added into Fortnite. Probably, it is the best and worst thing you will see this week. Fortnite never fails to keep up to date with the latest trends and implement them into its Battle Royale game. They might have hit it straight out of the park with this one, now the players are able to get a brand new emote based on the hit TikTok Sea Shanty song. If you have watched the official video showcasing the new emote, you may will think it sounds very similar to something you have heard before. That is because it’s based on the popular TikTok shanty song which has been making the rounds recently. The song was made popular by TikTok user Nathan Evans, who was officially credited in the Fortnite tweet.
According to the research, nearly two months after Nathan Evans posted that original video, Fortnite has put its own spin on the sea shanty. It was added to the Fortnite game as a squad emote and utilizes Fortnite-based lyrics to the tune of Wellerman. All members of a squad require to use the emote at the same time to make the group sing in unison. Fortnite posted a video showcasing the emote on its official Twitter feed.
In the time it took Epic Games to make this squad emotes, the sea shanty trend has cooled extremely. This has mainly been attributed to the aforementioned mainstream outlets which have tried to put their spin on the pop culture craze. Average viewers tend to become disinterested with trends when recognizable name-brands get involved, even if that brand’s success is mainly attributed to the addition of popular trends.
This was an example where the developers at Epic Games were not fast enough to fully take advantage on what was going on in the world, however it is not their fault. Game development will takes time and something seemingly as simple as emotes takes considerable working hours to implement. In fact, viral trends do not lend themselves for easy adaptation as their short lifespans, but Epic Games has somehow created it work even if it is occasionally late. Probably, the meme dead or close to death, but at least Fortnite players are able to sing a song worthy of the high seas now.
When you use the new emote, then your character will begin banging a drum and singing the famous shanty song. But, the song has been adapted to feature Fortnite related lyrics.
