The point of this dream feature is that when you sleep in the game, you are able to dream and in your dream you can go to other islands. Dream feature permits players to visit other islands without having to access the airport. However, as explained on Polygon, if you want to use a dream, you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
In Game 8, it is explained that Dreaming is a safe way to show off your island. Because it can be used to upload a copy of your island and other players can visit it to view without worrying that the visitors will affect or ruin your island.
When you are dreaming and visiting other islands, you are not able to learn recipes and you also cannot bring anything with you to a Dream island because Luna will hold your items for you.

A nice bed has been sent by Luna for you so that you have to make sure that you claim it.
- Then, when you are sleeping, there will be Luna and she will help you visit other islands in your dreams through a Dream Address.
- You have to enter the Dream address to be able to access the dream island that you want.
- It is important for you to note that before you go to a dream town, Luna will hold onto your items so that you will wake up on the island empty-handed.
If you want to go back to your island, you have to wake up by going back to the island’s Plaza where you are able to find Luna. Then, you have to lie down on the bed to wake up and go back to your island.
The Steps to Create and Share Your Dream Address
As explained on the Animal Crossing wiki site, to share a dream of the player’s island, an active Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed. A copy of the current state of the player’s island will be captured by Luna including its building and house interiors, outdoors, bulletin board messages, the presence of the campsite tent and the player’s name and passport. In the dream island, Redd’s trawler will never appear even if he was docked at the time of upload.
It is also important for you to note that you are able to upload islands once per day with the exact time and weather present from when you uploaded it. Every island has a specific address and the address of the player is able to be private or public on their passport.
