Before the Halloween event and before meeting Jack, you are suggested to purchase candy from Nook’s Cranny throughout the month of October so that you will have candy in your hand before everything starts.

Just like in the previous Animal Crossing versions, Jack has a similar role in the Animal Crossing New Horizons. When the October just starts, the player will get a letter that is sent by Jack. In the letter, there is a portrait of Jack. During the Halloween event, Jake will give a player like you the Haunt reaction when he is given a piece of candy for the first time. After the first meeting, he will give you a few items with Halloween theme. Aside from that, he will also give you his outfit and two DIY recipes. The reason of it is because the villagers will give these items to you and to the other players in exchange for candy on Halloween if they were not purchased from Nook’s Cranny or obtained previously.   6. Spooky table setting (DIY recipe): In order to get this item, you will have to give the candy to the villagers.
  7. Spooky wall: In order to get this item, you will have to give the candy to the villagers.
  8. Scare reaction: In order to get this item, you will have to give the candy to the villagers.

When the Halloween event starts, the best way that you can do is to find and meet Jack, who is able to be found near the Resident Services plaza on your island. After meeting him, giving him some candies and getting a lot of items from him, it is time for you to focus on the villagers. On the Halloween evening, the island’s villagers are everywhere roaming the outdoors wearing adorable costumes. When you see them, speak to them to trigger a trick or a treat interaction when you are able to give them a piece of candy as a reward.
