Resident Services is the main hub for the development of the island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the equivalent of the Town Hall in previous games. Resident Services starts as a small tent in an area. As the island grows, then it is upgraded to a permanent building with a paved plaza. Usually, Resident Services is open at all hours of the day.
How to Upgrade Resident Services ACNH?
Resident Services is a crucial Facility in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that can be upgraded to offer more useful services, like moving around your island layout. Resident Services Tent will offer limited features: a place to create DIY Items, a terminal to access the Nook Shop and Nook Miles Rewards, and also a Recycling Bin (as well as a place to purchase and sell items before Timmy moves to open Nook’s Cranny).
To upgrade the Resident Services tent into a proper town hall building, your final goal is to have five permanent residents. However, before you are able to attract three more, there are a series of certain tasks that you need to do.

Task 1: Pay Off Deserted Island Getaway Package Debt
In return for setting you up on the Deserted island, Tom Nook will ask for 5,000 Miles as payment. Collecting 5,000 Miles is really easy if you do Mileage Program Activities. Therefore, you will need to do this fast. You are able to press ZL and check activities to see all of the different things that you can do to get miles. Fishing, picking weeds, and catching bugs will be able to help you to set on the right path.
Task 2: Upgrade to a House
Do not worry, you will not have to pay off this $98,000 bell loan yet. Thus, just go ahead and speak to Tom Nook again after you pay off your Deserted Island Getaway Package to upgrade to a house.
Task 3: Build Nook’s Cranny
After you have paid your own Getaway Package and also upgraded to a house, then Timmy inside the Resident Services is going to ask you to assist build a proper shop named Nook’s Cranny.
To build Nook’s Cranny, you will need to gather:

- 30x Hardwood
- 30x Softwood
- 30x Iron Nugget
Then, you have to give them to Timmy. To get those, you need to hit the trees with an axe, and the rocks with an axe or a shovel that will allow you to farm materials once per day. It means that you are also going to need to collect the necessary materials for the tools.
Task 4: Build a Bridge
To build a Bridge, first you have to talk to Tom Nook after the shop has been built to obtain the Bridge Construction Kit. After you have created the kit, you will need to discover a place to build the Bridge by using the kit from your inventory to place it.
Task 5: Find Plots for 3 New Villagers
After you build a bridge to cross the river, then you have to place the three housing plots down wherever you like. Please check the sign on the lot to see which three interior items need to be submitted, and also which three exterior items must be placed around the central plot.
You have to spend time making the DIY Recipes you were given by Tom Nook which include the items made from your town’s native flowers and fruits. Also, you have to complete all three housing plots. Next, the new villagers are going to move in (limited to one per day).
After all three villagers are officially on the island, then Tom Nook is going to announce that the Resident Services will be undergoing an upgrade that will take a full day, where you will not be able to access the Recycling Bin or Terminal.
Upgraded Resident Services Facilities
After it has been fully completed, the Resident Services Building is going to stand at the top centre of the town square. Also, this will trigger hourly music to begin, and a default tune to play when talking to characters. Inside, Tom Nook is going to be joined by Isabelle (who will take over daily announcements). Together, they are going to allow you to access new features by sitting down in front of them. In addition, there will be new items available at the Nook Miles redemption terminal.
Tom Nook is going to allow you to take on a DIY Customization Workshop to change the items you have crafted. Also, he is going to allow you to approve construction of the bridges and inclines on the island (that will need a solemn investment of Bells once the foundation is placed). Aside from that, you are also able to ask to move any building on the island to a different location and the last you will need to spend money to secure many future residents to move.
Isabelle is going to allow you to change the town’s tune and flag. If a problem arises with a villager’s clothing or catchphrase, you are able to reset it with her. Eventually, you are also going to be able to ask regarding island evaluations to increase your town’s rating.

Resident Services is a location which provides a lot of services that are important to your life on the island. Those services include giving a workbench for your DIY Recipes, allowing you to purchase and sell items, and more.
