Animal fat is the name of the crafting item that is featured in the game called the Red Dead Redemption 2 or RDR2. This kind of thing is clearly needed in the game. So, how to get the animal fat in Red Dead Redemption or RDR2? One of the fastest methods to get large amounts of animal fat is by hunting ducks. Not only that, hunting geese is also one of the quickest ways to get it. The reason of why it has to be ducks and geese is because both of them usually spawn in large numbers. Aside from that, these two are easier to kill compared to the likes of bears and boars. Another reason is because you will be able to get a decent amount of cash and resources from the feathers and the game acquired alongside when looking for their fat.
Ducks are able to be found in the large flocks throughout the American West of Red Dead Redemption 2. They are known to like avoiding the arid stretches down in New Austin. If you want to hunt the ducks, including Mallard and Pekin Ducks, here is the list of the best locations to visit:
1. West Elizabeth

- Ducks usually flock around the Aurora Basin and a stretch of the Lower Montana River, a little way downstream.
- Another nesting ground is located upstate along the Upper Montana River. It is right after the river bends northwards. All these hunting grounds do not stop here and continue upriver just southwest of the town of Strawberry.
- There is a chance of you to find a few ducks wadding along the banks of the Owanjila and further upriver to the northwest as well.
- In West Elizabeth, the best location to hunt ducks is believed to be the Dakota River. These animals are known to span all along the river from Flat Iron Lake to the Ambardino border. They are able to be found on both sides of the river in both West Elizabeth and New Hanover.
- When you are on your journey to scope out the waters of Ambardino, do not forget to check out along Little Creek River running along the northern border of West Elizabeth to find a small population of ducks along with the riverbank west of Wallace Station.
2. Ambardino

- Your mind may go to Cattail Pond when thinking of the duck habitat in the Ambardino.
- Actually, duck population is a bit are in Ambardino. To find the ducks, you will need to go across the state, up to Donner Falls and the Calumet Ravine.
- The best location in Ambardino to hunt the duck is O’Creagh’s Run. In this location, they are able to be found along the banks on every side.
3. New Hanover

- There is a flock of ducks located in the northern stretches of New Hanover that spawn along the northeast and eastern borders of Annesburg, along the shores of the Lannahechee River.
- Along the Kamassa River to the Northwest and Southwest of Annesburg, there are some duck populations. However, they are smaller compared to the other ones.
- You can go to the Elysian Pool to find the ducks flocking to the pool further south and continue their way downriver west of the Van Horn Trading Post.
- Ducks usually live in a fairly long stretch of the Kamassa River a little way southwest of Van Horn as well.
- If you want to hunt ducks, you can also go to the Heartland Overflow that is located in the central Lemoyne.
- Another location to hunt ducks in New Hanover is Dwberry Creek. This one flows southwest from there and crosses into Lenoyme. The duck is possible to be found along this shallow creek on either side of the state border.
4. Lemoyne

- The best bet in Lenoyne is to keep too the Kamassa River and the waters surrounding it.
- They may be found around the westernmost docks of Saint Denis. Another possibility is on the southern border of Calliga Hall.
- The Southfield Flats and Mattock Pond located in the Scarlett Meadows are also worth visiting.
What about the geese? Where to go to find them? For everyone who wants to find geese, you are encouraged to go to the grasslands of The Heartlands and Lemoyne. Finding and killing them should be easy knowing that one location in certain has a few geese in one spot.
To be able to reach the location where the geese are spot, you will have to go to the mouth of the Dakota River close to Bard’s Crossing. This location is able to be found easily just east of Riggs Station or west of Flatneck Station. Using your Varmit Rifle is recommended to hunt them since they are small size birds. Using this weapon is best as it will make sure that you get the best quality kill.
Actually, pigs may also join ducks and geese as the animals that can be hunted to get the large amounts of animal fat quickly. However, killing them is not recommended due to the risk of losing your honor. If losing your honor does not matter for you, you can hunt the pigs in Saint Denis in Bayou Nwa, as ell as Guarma. Aside from that, there are also some other locations, including Cholla Springs (Armadillo), Scarlett Meadows (Braithwaite Manor and Rhodes), and The Heartlands (Granger’s Hoggery, Valentine, and Downes Ranch). Hunting pigs can be challenging. Just like any other domesticated animals, any attacks on them will usually be responded with a hostility from the surrounding people. To prevent the bad thing from happening, you are suggested to herd them into the isolated place before killing them. Another thing to consider is to select several remote ranches with only some occupants as silencing the occupants and killing the pigs can be done easily.
