The sad news is that one of them no longer exists. Just like in real life, Axolotls in the game vary when it comes to colors. The color varieties include pink, green, and brown. The fact that they are colorful makes them more adorable.

One of the most interesting facts about Axolotls is that they are named as the first amphibian in the game. As the first amphibian in the game, it is a must for you to find it. Then, how to find the Axolotl in the game? What is the best place to find one?

Finding an Axolotl in Minecraft is not as easy as many people think. They are a bit tricky to find. Since the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs has been divided into two updates, it means there are several places to find an Axolotl in the game.

As a player of the game, you will be able to find an Axolotl in Minecraft in the normal underground water or in underwater caves and deep parts of the ocean in the Minecraft 1.17 update. However, their spawn locations are more specific in Minecraft 1.18 update compared to the Minecraft 1.17 update. In the new update, these mobs are able to be found only underwater in Lush Caves, the one that is known as one of the cave biomes brought to the game in Minecraft 1.17 update. The thing known as Lush Cave is able to be located easily by looking out for a new Acacia tree and then digging along its roots until one of the vibrant caverns is found. With the release of the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Part II, there is no need for you to go out of your way to find Axolotls. While it is true that they are not all over the place, finding Lush Caves should be a bit more effective for you. When you are on your way to find the Axolotls, you will also be able to find a few other things hanging out in the water, including moss, oak, Azalea leaves, vines, water, big drip leaves, cave vines, spore blossom, and glow berries.

Finding out the Axolotls can be found easily if you have several things in mind, including:

    • They are found only in the water and below Y-level 63.
    • They are found only in perfect darkness. If you have no idea about the perfect darkness, it is Light Level 0.
    • The locations where they are found must be within five blocks of a stone type block, and it is a must for a location to have a solid block above the spawn location of these mobs.

If you do not know where to start to find them, there are a number of tricks that you can use to find them, as follows:

    • Template biomes: Not everyone might know but Lush Caves are considered a temperate biome. The statement means they are able to be found in the areas that are warm, a bit moist. Apart from that, these areas are almost always a shade of green.
    • Forested biomes: When you are on your way through the temperate biomes, try your best to discover the heavily forested areas. While it is true that Lush Caves are not exclusive to them, it has been known that they spawn under them most of the time.
    • Azalea trees: Focus on Azalea trees. If your knowledge about these trees is low, remember that they are the kinds of trees that are made of oak wood. It is certain that they always grow at the surface level above Lush Caves. If you see a tree with such description growing naturally in the wild, it means there is a Lush Cave directly beneath it, which also means there is a high chance of Axolotls to be found there.

When you are on your way to find the Axolotls in Minecraft, you might feel blue when you see one dead after spending so much of your time and energy. In this case, do not make a sudden conclusion as there is a chance of the mob to still be alive. They are actually known to be good at playing dead. So, the chance of them just pretending to be dead is there. Not only that, these sneaky ones may also use the situation to recharge their health so that they can trick you again.

Once you have successfully caught a minimum of two Axolotls, you have a chance to breed them. Then, how to actually breed them? Breeding these Axolotls can be done easily by using a Bucket of Tropical Fish to get more. 20 minutes is the time needed for the babies of Axolotls to become adults. Talking about breeding these mobs, it should be noted that the time remaining will be decreased by 10% every time you put the baby into a bucket.

As stated before, Axolotls vary when it comes to colors. The rarest one is the blue variant. Considering the chance of you getting the blue variant is low, you might think of breeding this variant. Unfortunately, the chance of breeding the blue variant is as low as getting it. One thing that is sure, the baby Axolotl will have one of the two colors of its parents.
