If you want to play Sea of Thieves, you may wonder whether this game enables you to play cross platform with Steam. If you want to know about it, here I have some information about it for you from some online sources.
Sea of Thieves Supports Crossplay
As explained on the Fanbyte site, Sea of Thieves can support crossplay between Windows 10, Xbox and Steam via the Play Anywhere. So, you are able to enjoy the game with your friends across platforms and also switch consoles while keeping your process. The reason is because when you log onto Sea of Thieves via Steam, you will be prompted to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you do that, it will enable you to play with other players regardless of which platform or online service that they decide to play Sea of Thieves on.
On the Fanbyte site, it is also explained that if you play Sea of Thieves on Windows 10, but you want to move to Steam, you will have to buy the game again. Across these two services, your progress will be able to be saved. However, it is important for you to know that having the game on one platform does not give the right to users to get a free version on the other platform.
On Windows Central site, it is explained that Sea of Thieves can support cross play between Xbox One, Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and mobile through xCloud Game Streaming. This feature is activated by default for all platforms so that it is easy for players to play with friends regardless of where they are.

The Way to Play Sea of Thieves Cross Platform on Xbox, PC and Mobile
As explained on the Dexerto site, to be able to play Sea of Thieves cross platform, it is not like other games that require you to tinker with some settings in the game, but this game has a simple method to allow you to play cross platform.
To cross platform in Sea of Thieves, the thing that you have to do according to the Dexerto is to add your friends through the in-game menus to join a lobby with them. You can do it through the game’s home screen and you will have to search their name in the menus and add them. After that, you can invite them to your lobby and then jump into the seas and complete all the missions.
On the Digital Trends site, it is explained that Sea of Thieves is a Play Anywhere game, but crossplay is part of the game itself. Regardless, an Xbox Live account is needed to use crossplay the same as you need an Epic account to be able to use crossplay with Fortnite and Dauntless. It is important for you to note that you just need an account, not a subscription.
On the Digital Trends, it is also explained that crossplay is enabled by default in the Sea of Thieves game. So, if you know how to invite friends and set sail, it will be easy for you. However, if you do not know how to do that, the thing that you have to do is to choose Adventure from the main menu. Then, you need to select the ship you want, choose if you want an open or closed crew and then invite your friends. On PC, you need to press 1 to open your friends list and on Xbox, you need to press X.
Well, it is simple, isn’t it? Let’s say that you are using an open lobby where random players can join. If so, they will be able to join regardless of the platform they are on.
Do you want to disable crossplay? If so, you have to follow the similar process but here you have to press the Y button on the ship selection screen and then you have to scroll down and set your matchmaking preferences. However, on the Digital Trends, it is explained that the option to disable crossplay is only able to be done on Xbox, not on PC. However, you need to note that it is just a preference, not a guarantee. Let’s say that you disable crossplay. If so, Sea of Thieves will try to put you in a lobby with players on the similar platform as you, but you may play with other platforms if there are not enough players available to fill the lobby as explained on the Digital Trends.

Sea of Thieves Cross Save and Cross Progression
According to the Digital Trends, here is the explanation about cross save and cross progression of Sea and Thieves. It is explained that Sea of Thieves is part of the Play Anywhere program. It means that it can support cross-save and cross-progression across PC and Xbox consoles including the Steam version. It is important for you to note that an Xbox Live account is required by Sea of Thieves and all your progression is tied to that account. The thing that you have to do is to log in regardless of the platform you are playing on.
Actually, it makes this game unique. Even though it is far from the only game to support cross-save, this game is one of a few games that permits you to support cross-save and it is one of a few that permits you to bring in-game currency between different platforms. Let’s take an example of a game which cannot transfer in-game currency namely Dauntless. In that game, you can carry your progress across systems, but you are not able to transfer in-game currency across platforms.
In Sea of Thieves, you are able to carry everything including any achievements that you have unlocked. It is explained that the Windows 10 and Xbox versions use a shared achievement list so that it is not a problem. On Steam, your achievements will be carried. Let’s say that you bought the Steam version of Sea of Thieves and you previously played the game on other platforms. If so, any achievements that you have earned will be able to unlock automatically when you launch the game
