The name of his father was Mario Jose Bergoglio. He lived from 1908 to 1959. The name of his mother was Maria Sivori. She lived from 1911 to 1981.

Maria Elena Bergoglio, the pope’s only living sibling, made a statement that they did not move for economic reasons. Alberto Horacio, Oscar Adrian, and Marta Regina were the other Pope’s siblings. He had two great-nephews. Those were Antonio and Joseph. However, they passed away in a traffic collision. He also has a niece. Her name is Cristina Bergoglio. She works as a painter based in Madrid, Spain.
When Bergoglio was in the sixth grade, he was a student of Wilfrid Baron de los Santos Angeles. It was a school of the Salesians of Don Bosco, in Ramos Mejia, Buenos Aires Province. When he would to celebrate the Spring Day, he found his vocation to the priesthood. At that time, he passed by a church to go to confession. The thing that he felt was that he was inspired by the priest. Then, he made a decision to study at the archdiocesan seminary, Inmaculada Concepcion Seminary, in VIlla Devoto, Buenos Aires. After three years, he got into the Society of Jesus as a novice on March 11th, 1958.
In Santiago, Chile, humanities is the thing that he studied as a Jesuit novice. On March 12th, 1960, he officially became a Jesuit and it was after his novitiate in the Society of Jesus.
In 1960, from the Colegio Maximo de San Jose in San Miguel, Buenos Aires Province, he got a licentiate in philosophy. At the Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion, a high school in Santa Fe, literature and psychology were taught by him from 1964 to 1965. Then, the same courses were taught by him at the Colegio del Salvador in Buenos Aires in 1966.

In May 2014, the State of Israel was visited by him and 12 speeches were delivered by him. In May 2015, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas was welcomed by him to the Vatican. A treaty was signed by the Vatican where the aim is to recognize the state of Palestine.
On June 6th, 2015, Sarajevo was visited by him where it is the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There, he urged peace during his time in the religiously diverse city.
