Prince Andrew and his accuser named Virginia Roberts, who is now more known as Virginia Giuffre, have settled the sex abuse lawsuit that she filed against him, the one that has damaged his image and reputation as one of the working members of the royal family. The lawyers that represent Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre filed documents on Tuesday in the federal court in New York. These two agreed that both parties had reached an agreement or settlement for an undisclosed sum and a substantial donation to the charity belonging to Mrs. Giuffre in support of the victim’s rights. Apparently, the settlement was made out of the court. As for the amount of the settlement and donation, it was not disclosed.
Prince Andrew was accused by Virginia Giuffre of assaulting her three separate times when she was 17 in the early 2000s. According to her, the first one happened in New York, the second one in London and the last one on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean.
The settlement ends the legal drama that focused on one of the most popular people that had social relations with a multimillionaire investor named Jeffrey Epstein, the one who is also known to be associated with Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and so on. Unfortunately, Epstein took his own life two years ago while in behind the bar awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Prince Andrew has denied the accusation of Virginia Giuffre for a couple of times and has accused her of lying and sought to distance himself from Jeffrey Epstein, the one who was accused by a lot of young women of recruiting and treating them badly, and asking erotic messages more than ones a day. He told BBC that he never have met her, saying that the widely spread photograph that consists of him with his arm around Virginia Giuffre’s waist and Ghislaine Maxwell grinning in the background must have been fake. He also added that he could not meet Virginia Giuffre at the townhouse belonging to Maxwell in London on the night in question as at the time he was with his daughter at a Pizza Express in a suburb. Basically, he said that he did not remember meeting her. On the claim that he sweated all over Giuffre on a nightclub dance floor, he said that there was an incident that happened when he was a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War curtailed his ability to sweat.
According to a one page statement filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Tuesday, it is stated that Prince Andrews has never intended to slander the character of Virginia Giuffre. In the same statement, it is also stated that he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks. Aside from that, it is also reported that Prince Andrew regrets his association with Jeffrey Epstein and applauds Virginia Giuffre and some other survivors for being brave to stand up for themselves and the others. Prince Andrews promises to show his regret for his relationship with the sex offender named Jeffrey Epstein by showing support to those who are currently fighting against the evils of sex trafficking.
The lawyer of Virginia Giuffre in New York named David Boies advised U.S. District Judge Lewin Kaplan that both parties had reached a settlement even though the settlement has to be approved by the judge. As stated in the letter, the parties anticipate filing a stipulation of dismissal of the case within thirty (30) days. Meanwhile, a London lawyer with the international firm Ince named Nick Goldstone told USA TODAY that a settlement in principle needs to be ratified by court order and until they see that, he would not hold the breath too deeply as all he needs is to be dotted and to be crossed. However, he said that it was still a good day and a huge relief for the royal family. Furthermore, he said that in the terms of the court of public opinion, this looks like an admission of bad conduct on the part of Prince Andrew and he suspected that he will remain off of the spotlight from the royal family for the rest of his life.
On the other hand, the attorney for Prince Andrew did not respond to anything about the out of the court settlement. They declined to comment beyond what was noted in the court filing. Just like them, the representatives of royale family also did not want to comment as it is the matter for the Duke of York and his legal team.
Since the first time he was accused by Virginia Giuffre, Price Andrew has lost his position as a representative of trading, his status as a senior working royale, and his military titles and remaining patronages. For your information, the man had been patron to more than 100 charities before all the organizations started to cut ties with him due to his association with Epstein and due to all his cases.
In fact, the lawsuit also set off the intense public intrigue over what legal scrutiny and embarrassment Prince Andrew would get if the man really went to trial. Besides, everyone is also wondering who would pay the bill for a settlement if it were reached.
