Bill Belichick Early Life
The complete name of Bill Belichick is William Stephen Belichick. He was born on April 16th, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee. His mother is Jeannette and his father is Steve Belichick. In Annapolis, Maryland, he was raised. There, his father was an assistant football coach at the United States Naval Academy.
His father is one of Bill’s most important football mentors. He often studied football with his father. When Bill Belichick was young, he learned to break down game films and he did it by watching his father and the Navy staff do their jobs.
In 1970, Bill Belichick graduated from Annapolis High School. When he was there, he played football and lacrosse. For a postgraduate year, he registered at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. His aim was to improve his grades and test scores to be admitted into a quality college. Then, 40 years later, he was honoured by the school by inducting him into its Athletics Hall of Honor in 2011.
After that, Bill Belichick became a student of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. There, he placed center and tight end. He also played lacrosse and squash where he served as the captain of the lacrosse team during his senior season. In 1975, he got a bachelor’s degree in economics.

According to Wikipedia, here is Bill Belichick’s coaching career. In 1975, he took a job as an assistant to Baltimore Colts head coach Ted Marchibroda where he was paid $25 per week. He did this after he graduated. In 1976, he decided to join the Detroit Lions as their assistant special teams coach.
On January 9th, 1978, he was dismissed along with head coach Tommy Hudspeth and the rest of the coaching staff. The 1978 season was spent by him with the Denver Broncos as their assistant special teams coach and defensive assistant.
In 1979, he started a 12-year stint with the New York Giants with head coach Ray Pekins as a defensive assistant and special teams coach. To his duties, linebackers coaching was added in 1980. In 1985, he was named defensive coordinator under head coach Bill Parcells. Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV were won by the Giants following the 1986 and 1990 seasons.
From 1991 to 1995, he became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He was able to compile a 36-44 record during his tenure in Cleveland and it led the team to the playoffs in 1994. His one playoff victory during his Browns tenure was obtained against the New England Patriots who were coached by Bill Parcells in the Wild Card Round during that postseason. In the last season of Bill Belichick in Cleveland, the Browns could finish 5 – 11.
In November 1995, Browns owner Art Model had made an announcement that he would move his franchise to Baltimore after the season. However, on February 14th, 1996, Belichick was fired after first being given assurances that he would coach the new team that would be the Baltimore Ravens.
After his dismissal, then Belichick served under Parcells again as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach with the Patriots for the 1996 season. The Patriots could finish with an 11-5 record and the AFC Championship was won over the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, they lost to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI.
There were two duties done by Bill Belichick as the head coach of the New York Jets without coaching a game. In February 1997, he was chosen as the Jets temporary head coach while the Jets and Patriots went on to negotiate compensation to release Parcells from his contract with the Patriots and give permission to Patriots to coach the Jets. Then, Belichick became the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator of the team.
After the 1999 season, Parcells stepped down as head coach. He had arranged with team management to have Belichick replace him. However, Bill Belichick would become the head coach for the New York Jets for only one day. On January 4th, 2000, Belichick was introduced as head coach to the media and he turned it into a surprise resignation announcement. Before he took the podium, he wrote a resignation note on a napkin. After that, he sent a half-hour speech which explained about his resignation to the press corps.
He then was introduced as the Patriots’ 12th full time head coach to replace Pete Carroll.
Robert Kraft then gave him complete control over the football operations of the team so that it made him the general manager of the team as well. Until 2009, Bill Belichick divided a lot of duties which were generally done by a general manager of other clubs with player personnel director Scott Pioli. However, Belichick had the final say on football matters. After the 2008 season, Pioli left for the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the 2000 regular season, the Patriots went 5-11 and missed the playoffs.
