According to the Pokemon Database site, when pokemon undergo an evolution, it makes them stronger. Even it can give them a wider movepool. There are some species of pokemon which are only able to be obtained through evolution.

How can evolution happen? There are some methods of evolution and there are more variations which are added with each game. In Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow, a pokemon is able to evolve by training it to a certain level, trading through cable link or applying an elemental stone.
