Do you have iOS 15? In that device, you may find Mic Mode. However, what does it mean? You should know it to know the function of it and you are able to read about Mic Mode below.
Mic Mode on iOS 15
As explained on the Nerds Chalk site, Mic Mode is the solution in Apple to improve the way you sound to others while on a video or voice call. It is important for you to note that Mic Mode in itself is not a feature. As you know, for years, Apple devices have been known to have the best call quality in terms of audio by balancing the details of your voice and that of your surroundings. Now, by having the new Mic Mode, you can choose what others hear from your side during a video or voice call through machine learning. So, this new mode gives you the other options besides the Standard mode namely Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum.
What is Voice Isolation? With it, your voice will be separated from other noises in the background to ensure that your voice remains in focus at all times. It will be able to reduce distractions that may happen around when you are in calls on your iPhone.
How about Wide Spectrum? It does the opposite of Voice Isolation. Wide Spectrum does not filter your voice out of the background, but it will let in the ambient sound from your surroundings and amp it up. As a result, the slightest of sounds can be heard clearly.
Of course, these features have different purposes. Voice Isolation is able to be used to make your voice stand out over the background sounds for example when you are in a crowded place and you want your voice to reach the other person. Meanwhile, Wide Spectrum is able to be used when you want others on call to listen to the details that you need to share from your surroundings for example when playing music in a live session.
That’s all the explanation about mic mode on iOS 15 according to the Nerds Chalk site. Now, let’s find out more about using Mic Mode on iOS 15 according to the same source.
Using Mic Mode on iOS 15
What do we have to do if we want to use Mic Mode on iOS 15? As explained on the Nerds Chalk, if you want to use Mic Mode on iOS 15, here are the steps to use Mic Mode on iOS 15.
-
- First, you have to open FaceTime or any other compatible app on your iPhone.
- After that, you have to start a voice or video call.
- After the call is initiated, then you have to swipe downwards from the top right corner to open the Control Center.
- When you see the Control Center appear, then, you have to tap on Mic Mode at the top of the screen. By tapping it, it will open a new overflow menu on the screen and it asks you to choose from one of the three available options inside Mic Mode including Standard, Voice Isolation, and Wide Spectrum.
- Here, you have to choose the option that you want to set for your video or voice call.
- Now, you are able to tap anywhere on the screen to get back to the Control Center. And then you will see the chosen option appear as a label inside Mic Mode.
If you want to change your Mic Mode setting, you are able to repeat the steps above any time during a call. It is important for you to note that by default, Apple resets Mic Mode to Standard every time you make a new call across any app so that you begin your calls normally.
The Apps That Support Mic Mode on iOS 15
As explained on the Nerds Chalk site, during the launch of iOS 15, Apple showed the new Mic Mode option with Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum on its FaceTime app. However, even though it is documented under FaceTime on iOS 15 feature list of Apple, the feature would not be exclusive to FaceTime. Mic Mode may be able to be seen on other voice or video calling apps on iOS depending on how app developers approach this new option.
According to the Nerds Chalk, they tested Mic Mode on their iPhones and they found that in addition to FaceTime, you are able to use Mic Mode to change audio to Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum when you are making video calls on Instagram, Snapchat, Zoom, and Google Meet.
The Reason Why You Cannot See Mic Mode Inside Control Center
You may be confused because you are not able to see Mic Mode inside the Control Center. If it happens, first you need to know that this feature will appear when you are on a video or voice call with someone in a compatible app. Let’s say that you have a supported app open on your screen and you find that it still fails to appear. If so, it happens probably because your microphone is not being actively used on the iPhone. If you see the option on FaceTime without you being on a voice or video call, it may not be able to work the same way on the other apps as explained on the Nerds Chalk site.
It is important for you to know that this new Mic Mode toggle is a button in Control Center and the things that make it useful are the Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum options. Let’s say that you are using any of the compatible apps, but you find that you still cannot see Mic Mode inside the Control Center. The reason may be because you are not on a video or voice call. You are not able to access Mic Mode if you are in any other Camera mode in the apps which means that it will not come up when a video on Instagram is being posted or a Story in the Snapchat app is being uploaded by you. It is because this feature is specifically created for interactions over voice or video calls.
Well, that’s all the information about Mic Mode on iOS 15 according to the Nerds Chalk site and thank you for reading this here.
