The Method to Mute and Unmute Yourself in Zoom Calls on Phone
If you want to mute and unmute yourself during a meeting through Zoom, it is easy to do. You just have to tap on your screen so that it will show the available options. After that, you have to tap on Mute to disable your audio. If you do this, the button will turn red. Then, if you want to unmute it, you have to tap on the Unmute icon that has replaced Mute.
The Method to Mute Others on Zoom Call
You have known how to mute and unmute yourself on Zoom by reading the method above. Now, how to mute others on Zoom call? You may be a host of a meeting and you want to mute others since you want to focus on explaining something to others on that meeting. Then, you are able to mute others by following the steps below.
Before we explain how to mute others, first you have to decide whether you want to mute all the participants or select the participants manually whom you want to mute. If you are using Android or iPhone, you can follow the steps below.
- The first thing that you have to do is to launch the Zoom app and then you have to create a meeting.
- After that, you need to tap on the Participants tab which can be found at the bottom. By tapping on it, you will be directed to the list of participants.
- If you want to mute all of the participants, you have to tap on Mute All at the bottom. Then, if you want to unmute them, you can tap on Unmute All. Next, you have to confirm on the next screen. It is important for you to note that if you do not want the participants to unmute themselves, you are able to uncheck the ‘Allow Participants Unmute Themselves’ option. By doing it, you are able to unmute participants and they are not able to do it themselves.
- Now, if you want to mute or unmute a chosen participant, you have to tap on the name of the participants and then you must choose Mute or Unmute from the menu. Here, it is important for you to know that if the participants have muted themselves and then you unmute them, they will receive a notification which tells them that the host wants to unmute them. If they give permission, they will be muted.
If you want to mute the participants from the beginning of the meeting, you are able to do that by tapping on the three-dot icon at the bottom of the meeting screen. Then, you have to go to the Meetings Settings. There, you have to enable Mute on Entry.
If you are using a PC or Mac, you are also able to mute yourself by using Zoom keyboard shortcuts. If your PC is Windows 10, you are able to press Alt+A keys to toggle mute on and off. But, if your device is Mac, you are able to press Shift+Command+A to toggle mute on and off.
If you are not a host of the meeting, but then you are distracted by the back sounds of the other participants, you are able to turn off the sound from them except the host. You can do it by using the keyboard shortcuts below.
- Alt+M
This shortcut can be used by you to toggle audio on or off for all participants except the host. You can use this shortcut when you are using a PC.
- Command+Ctrl+M
This shortcut can be used to mute audio for all participants except the host and you can use this shortcut on Mac.
- Command+Ctrl+U
This shortcut can be used by you to be able to unmute audio for all participants except the host and you can use this shortcut on Mac.
The Controls of Phone for Meeting Host
If you have used the Host Key to begin the meeting, you will have the host controls by entering DTMF tones on your dial pad. If you want to hear all available commands, you have to enter ** on your phone.

The Method to Disable Speaker During a Zoom Call
When you become a participant of a meeting, actually you do not have a right to mute other participants. However, you are able to disable your speaker in the Zoom. By doing it, you are able to lower the incoming audio during a call. If you want to hear the audio, you will have to take your phone near your ear.
How to use this feature? You just have to tap on the speaker icon which can be found at the top left corner in the Zoom meeting. Then, you have to tap on it again to disable it.
