About Travelodge

Some of you may not know about Travelodge. For your information, Travelodge refers to some hotel chains around the world. The operations right now include United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. But, many of those are operated by independent companies who have no connection with the brand in other countries. Since, December 31, 2018, Travelodge has 435 properties with over 30,000 rooms.

The Travelodge brand is one of the first motel chains in the United States. Scott King, the founder of Travelodge Corporation, incorporated in Southern California in the year of 1939. Later, the first TraveLodge opened in San Diego in the year of 1940. For many years, Travelodge was located in El Cajon (California). During its early years, TraveLodge push itself as a budget motel chain which offered functional accommodations at rates lower than other chains.

Also, TraveLodge emphasized that its motels were centrally located near downtown areas in order to be convenient to churches, theatres, local restaurants, shopping areas and tourist attractions. But, now there are lots of different hotel “tiers” which Travelodge offers, from budget-priced properties to full-service high-rise hotels. We get information that Travelodge bought the Skylight Inn of America Inn in the year of 1987, which was founded just five years prior in Cleveland, Ohio, and Lodge Keeper Group that operated LK and Country Hearth, in the year of 1990.

Based on the research, in the year of 1996, the Forte Group sold the Travelodge operation in North America. Then, the trademark rights and franchise system were acquired for $39 million by HFS Inc., the owner of other hotel brands such as Days Inn and Ramada. Later, HFS was merged into Cendant Corporation, and the Cendant’s hotel services, including Travelodge, were spun off as Wyndham Hotels and Resorts in the year of 2006.
