Accessing Ohio University Course Offerings

You are able to access Ohio University Course Offerings by using this address https://webapps.ohio.edu/classes/search.htm. When you access it, there are some fields including Term, Location, Delivery Method, Meeting Pattern, Subject, Catalog Number, Course Name, Course Topic, Course Level, Class Statuses, General Education, General Education Code, General Education Tier 1, General Education Tier 2, General Education Tier 3, Begin Date, End Date, Instructor, Course Description, Credit Hours, Class Start Time, Class End Time, Class Days, Eligible Grades, Building, Room and Results Per Page.

If you have filled in the fields, then you can hit the Search button under the form. You do not have to fill in all of the fields. You are able to fill only some fields. Then, after you hit the Search button, you will get the results including the course, title, component, class number, section, days, time, credit hours, instructor, course fee, begin date, end date, enrolled/ max, and status.

About Course Offerings

The Ohio University Course Offerings site allows you to search for classes being offered for current and future terms. After you choose your search criteria, then you have to click on the Search button. Then, the classes that meet your criteria are shown. Let’s say that you choose some locations. If so, each location appears in the results as a separate tab and each tab recognizes the number of classes for that location that met your criteria.

You are able to use the Expand All button which can be found at the top right of the results page to show details about each class section. Or, you are able to click the black triangle to the left of a section to show details about the individual class section. The section details that you can see include: General Education Tier, Location, Instructors, Course Name, College (of the course), Department (of the course), Eligible Grades, Alternate Delivery, Dual-Listed, Permissions Required, Last Day to Add, Last Day to Drop, Last Day to Withdraw, Repeat/ Retake Information, Requisite, Course Description, Meeting Times (Days, Time, Building, Room).

You may wonder how to find classes offered online in Ohio University Course Offerings. Well, by default, online classes will be included in your results. You will see that they are listed with the campuses that are offering them. Let’s say that you do not want online classes to be included in your search. If so, you have to choose ‘Do Not Include with selected locations’ from the drop down menu beside ‘Online Courses’ on the search page.If you want to see all online classes regardless of the campus offering them, the thing that you have to do is to click on the check box beside ‘Online (All Locations)’ in the location section of the search form.

How about finding the course description? You are able to find it by following these steps. First, in the search results, you have to click on the black triangle to the left of each class section and more details are provided about the class, including the course description.

If you want to save a frequent search that you do, you are able to do that by performing your search and then on the resulting page, you have to create a bookmark or add it to your favorites. The next time you access your saved link (bookmark), the search will be re-executed and the current results will be returned.

You may also wonder how current the information in the Course Offerings system is. Well, as explained on the Ohio.edu on the FAQ section, the number of students enrolled and the class status are updated in real time. It is also explained that the rest of the class data is updated at least every 30 minutes for current and future terms. Current and future terms are those semesters for which the second Friday of the semester has not passed. You are able to check the academic calendar for seeing specific dates. If you want to find the exact time the data was refreshed look just below the tabbed area of the search results. How about past term information that is still available on Course Offerings? It is updated once per day, at approximately 6:30 am.

How do we know where the class meets? In the search results, you are able to click on the black triangle to the left of each class section. There are more details about the class, including the building and room where it meets. Let’s say that you click on the link. If so, a map will show you a yellow arrow to identify the building.

Who do we have to contact if the class requires permission? You have to contact the instructor. In the search results, you are able to click on the name of the instructor to get their contact information. If you see that there is no instructor listed, then you are able to contact the department/ school office. In the search results, you have to click the title to see the department/ school offering the course.
