Why Can’t I Find a Particular Offender or Court Case I Am Looking For?
Through VineLink, you can get information about the offenders who are in custody or who have been released. Sometimes, there is a problem in which you cannot find a particular offender or court case you are looking for. If you cannot find the offender you search, we highly suggest you to call the facility where the offender is housed to ask about his/her custody status. Apparently, there are some possible reasons why the offender or case was not found.
Facility is offline
A facility may occasionally lose its connection to VINE due to service interruptions or required maintenance. During this time, the facility will be considered “offline.” If a facility is offline, the facility’s current custody information will not be available. You will also not be able to search for the offenders and register to get notifications until the connection is restored. The custody information is updated, and all functions will be available again once the connection is restored. If you need information regarding a particular offender quickly, we strongly advise you to contact the facility directly.
In the custody of another agency
Need to note that Vine does not provide federal inmate information. So, if you search for federal inmates using VineLink, you only waste your time. If you want to ask assistance getting federal inmate information, you can visit the Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. And, you also will not be able to find an offender housed in ICE custody. To search for an offender who is in ICE custody, you can visit ice.gov and use the Detainee Locator tool.
Non-participating areas
When you want to find an offender using VineLink, make sure that Vine is available in the location of the offender. While VINE is available in most of the United States, there are some states with areas that are not yet using VINE services. You will not be able to receive information from areas that do not participate with Vine. If you cannot find the offender, take another step. Alternatively, you can contact the facility directly.
