The name of Craighead County, Arkansas, came from the name of state Senator Thomas Craighead. The county was formed on February 19, 1859. As the Jonesboro-Paragould Combined Statistical Area, this county has two county seats, i.e., Jonesboro and Lake City.

About Craighead County Jail
Opened in 1989, the Craighead County detention center has a maximum of 345 inmates. It is located at 901 Willett Rd., Jonesboro, AR 72401, United States.
The facility categorizes the inmates based on each classification, including felon status male, misdemeanor status male, and special needs male inmates, with a separate juvenile detention center.
The facility employs at least 73 officers who are assigned 12 hours per shift, for a total of 4 shifts. Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Craighead County detention center also has medical staff who are tasked with controlling the emergency medical needs of prisoners while they are placed in the detention facility.
For the juvenile detention center, the facility can hold both male and female juveniles between the ages of 10 and 17. The facility has 32 beds for males, 28 beds for females, and 2 isolation cells that are supervised by the Director of Youth and Youth Detention Officers.
The 62-bed facility provides juvenile services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and receives offenders from juvenile or municipal courts, law enforcement agencies, and intake officers.
Inmate Programs at Craighead County Jail
Just like other juvenile detention centers, Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center also provides an education program to all of the juvenile offenders. Under the supervision of the Jonesboro Public School System, the education program at Craighead County Jail is funded through the Arkansas Department of Education.
To administer the program, the facility has four full-time certified teachers to provide educational services. It is given to all offenders throughout the year, including through the summer months. Basically, the education program aims to allow every juvenile offender to continue their education while living in jail.
Inmate Services at Craighead County Jail
Craighead County Jail, under a contract with Tiger Correctional Services, Inc., provides reliable inmate meal services. Under the mandates of the Criminal Detention Facility Review Commission, the facility ensures all inmates meet nutritional requirements, receive appropriate calorie intake, and have special dietary needs based on their class.
Aside from inmate meal services, the facility also offers a commissary where inmates can purchase what they need, such as toiletries, snacks, beverages, and clothes.
You can also order commissary items for inmates online through Tiger Commissary, or inmates can do it at the kiosk in the lobby of the jail. They are only allowed to make a commissary order on Monday and Thursday. They will then receive their orders on Tuesday and Friday of each week.
Inmate Communication Services
Craighead County Jail also utilizes JailATM Systems, a communication company for prisons, to facilitate inmate communication with their family members and friends.
Through JailATM, you can take a video visit, send inmates money, and exchange messages. To use these services, you just need to register with JailATM here: deposits.jailatm.com/webdeposits/. To sign up, you’ll be required to enter your email address to create your account.
After having a JailATM account, you can then add funds to your account to start buying a messaging subscription and schedule a video visit.
For messaging subscriptions, you’ll have to pay $5.00, and each message costs $0.50. And if you send a message to an inmate, the fee will be deducted from your credits.
For the fees of video visitation, you’ll be charged $0.35 per minute. For a full 30-minute video call, it costs $10.50.

Inmate Mailing Address
Craighead County Jail allows outside parties to send letters to the inmates; any packages are not allowed. The letter should include your full name and return address. The inmates can also send out legal mail and standard U.S. mail daily, unless on Sunday.
