If you really know why your Samsung ice maker cannot make ice, you may need to look for more information about it. After knowing the reasons, you definitely will have solutions to fix this problem. So, let’s see the reason why your Samsung fridge does not make ice below!
Some Reasons Why Your Samsung Ice Maker Doesn’t Make Ice
There are a few reasons why your Samsung ice maker cannot make ice to freeze. To prove it, you may need to identify the issue right away. Keep in mind, not each issue occurring in Samsung fridge is the same. Based on our little research, there are a bunch of reasons why your Samsung ice maker does not freeze. Here they are:
-
- Incorrect temperature on freezer
Your Samsung ice maker will not make ice if you set the wrong temperature. You should know that the ice makers are sensitive to the freezer temperature. Almost all freezers will make ice at low temperatures.
Otherwise, if your freezer temperature is too high, it may become warm and ice may melt. So, it cannot freeze to make ice. The ideal temperature to make ice for Samsung fridge is around 2 to 0 degree Fahrenheit. So, make sure to keep your Samsung fridge at this range to optimally produce ice cubes.

- Ice stuck in the mold
Misshapen ice, frosty ice and fractured ice are all common issues, particularly the ice maker’s basket getting clogged with ice chunks. However, an entire batch of new ice cannot be performed if a whole batch of ice gets clogged in the basket and then water may be creating an issue too, since it cannot fill the tray.
To melt the ice cubes stuck from the ice maker’s basket, you may need to fill a pitcher with warm water and turn the ice maker off. Make sure to pour the water over the ice tray and use a spoon to gently nudge them out. Ensure to remove all of the liquid from the ice bin, so you will not have any liquids that impact the next batch of ice.
-
- Ice maker paused and turn off
The main problem why the ice maker paused and turned off is on the settings. You may be confused about it, as there are two or three different ways to stop your ice maker. The ice maker paused and turned off may happen when one of your family members accidentally turned off the ice maker.
If a digital display is available in your Samsung fridge, you definitely can access the ice maker settings that can be found in the panel. You can also try to press and hold the power or ice maker for a few seconds to check if your Samsung ice maker was electronically turned off.
For more information, the fill bar is a metal bar sitting on top of the ice bin. If the ice bin fills up, it will push the fill bar to the top and stop new ice from being frozen. To fix it, you may need to push back down to let the ice maker keep making ice.
-
- Icemaker is not level
The ice will not be level in the mold if the machine does not hang level in the fridge. However, the ice may be slanted in the mold and even the ejector may not work properly. In this case, your fridge may be lopsided.
To fix it, you can use a bubble level to ensure your Samsung fridge is not leaning in one direction or another. You can also use it on the bottom of the fridge and ice maker floor. You can then set the feet of the fridge until they are flat if they are not level.
If the freezer is too high or low, you can check to see if the mount brackets are bent. If so, you can use pliers to straighten them out. If the issue is on the screws that are loose, you may need to reattach them tightly.
-
- Faulty water filter
You may need to change the water filter if you see your ice maker not filling with water. As time goes by, the filter will be contaminated from impurities and will restrict the ice maker’s flow or water. Well, it can lead to a drastic reduction in ice production with a funky smell and taste.
To fix it, you can change the filter every six months to prevent the clogs from hindering ice production. For more information, Non-OEM water filters will restrict the freezer’s water flow. So you need to always install and use a Samsung-recommended filter.
Additionally, you may need to check the user manual for more information on water filter installation for your Samsung model. Avoid using a filter which is not approved by Samsung.
-
- Check the dispensing gear and motor
Need to know, the ejector gear actually controls when the ice gets released. To check it, you may need to access the gears and see if they are damaged or working smoothly. When the freezer does not make ice, you can check for continuity using a multimeter.
-
- Inspect the water line
There may be a problem with the water supply if your Samsung freezer is not working. Need to know, your ice maker will need water to produce ice, so you can follow the water line. To fix it, you can check for malfunctions, clogs or also find out if the issue is with the filter. You can fix this issue by inspecting your pipes and fixing any problem you see.
