What’s Wrong With Roblox?

On July 20th, 2021, you may find that there was a brief outage on Roblox so that it made a lot of reactions from users on the social media to confirm about the issue. Some down detectors made a report that Roblox was down on July 20th, 2021. According to the report, the downtime started around 6 AM IST and lasted for an hour. According to Republic World, downdetector reported that there were over 200 outages of Roblox which Services Down reported more than 1000 outages in the last 24 hours. Roblox users also made reports to social media like Twitter. The hashtag ‘Robloxdown’ was trending earlier. It was because  Roblox users around the world made reports about the issue. But then, the servers resumed after one hour of the outage namely at 07:00 AM IST on July 20th, 2021.

So, what was the reason of this outage? There might be some problems which occurred. It could be maintenance or bug fixes. According to Downdetector, as explained on Republic World, there were around 45% of reports which were related to server connection issues. Then, there were 38% of reports which were related to issues with the website and there were around 17% of the reports which were related to log in. But now, you do not have to be worried because the issue has been resolved and Roblox servers are back up. Usually, Roblox make a notification when the platform will shut down. However, at that time, Roblox did not make any notification and the sudden outages might be because of the glitches, errors or updates to the server.

There are no explanation from Roblox about this brief outage which occurred on July 20th, 2021. Usually, if Roblox is down, there are excessive lag problems, players cannot join games or games may take more time to load. The Things That Happen When Roblox Is Down

What will happen when Roblox is down? If Roblox is encountering any issue or doing maintenance, Roblox users may experience a number of things as you are able to read below as explained in Roblox webiste in the Help section.

    • When you buy something in the platform, it may be delayed to arrive. However, you have to rest assured that if a product is not immediately applied to your account, it will be soon. All purchases which are completed will have the product applied. There are a lot of cases where products are applied within the hour and at mots in 24 hours. It also may occur with virtual purchases which is made onsite or in game with Robux.
    • When you join a game, it may be delayed or unsuccessful. If you find any issue with joining games, you are able to wait for a few moments and then you can try it again.
    • You may find that there is a lag or delay when you are using the platform, website or applications.

Maintenance in Roblox

According to Roblox Wiki, maintenance in Roblox happens when Roblox staff temporarily shut down the whole website and services to do crucial updates or general maintenance. When maintenance begins, Roblox users will not be able to connect to servers and Roblox users who are already in games will be automatically kicked from servers. When maintenance is being performed, anyone who tries to go to a Roblox page will be redirected to a generic maintenance page.

Before maintenance is started, usually there are yellow or orange banners which will be shown on the website where it informs all players about the maintenance. It is done to prevent any sitewide panic. Players may also be informed that access to servers will be unavailable temporarily.

However, sometimes there are some maintenance which do not require the website to be shut down. Nevertheless, an orange banner will be seen on the website where it states that the website is now undergoing maintenance and that players may find that there is connection issue when they try to join or play a game.

Previously, usually maintenance happened when most people are asleep or at school in different time zones. But then, by 2019, maintenance are usually rare. Instead, it happens at any time in emergencies and sometimes it happens even without any notifications in advance.

Maintenance Banners in Roblox

As explained in Roblox Wiki, an orange banner states that Roblox will be down for maintenance. It will be shown on the Roblox website as a notification to players that the website will be shutting down shortly. During maintenance, when Roblox is playable, the banner will state that Roblox is currently undergoing maintenance. Furthermore, it will state that you may encounter connectivity issues.

During the phases of maintenance where buying Premium, Builders Club or Robux are disabled, there is an additional banner which may be present to inform users that they cannot make any real-life purchase on Roblox.

Also, there is a white maintenance bar. It happens in an unknown date when Roblox characters did not load.

Online and In-game Maintenance Bugs in Roblox

Sometimes, when maintenance is being performed, there are some of the game servers which have not been fully shut down. These servers and clients in-game are not able to request data for Roblox assets. In the next few minutes, there are some servers which will be forced shut down based on the command given by the maintenance team.

Sometimes, when maintenance is being performed, players are still able to teleport to other games or places without getting a connection error. If you are attempting to save or publish changes to a game in Roblox Studio when maintenance is being performed, there will be a message which will pop up which says that you need to log into Roblox in order to save. However, if you press the OK button, it will automatically exit you off the place and discard any and all work.
