Sea of Thieves Season 5 released on December 2, 2021. It consists of holiday content and new gameplay additions. Also, we get even more Pirates of the Caribbean content to enjoy. There is much to unpack from this season 5. In this article, we are going to share a quick breakdown of every new feature in Sea of Thieves Season 5.

Sea of Thieves Season 5 Patch Notes

Burying Treasure Maps

One thing which has been absent from Sea of Thieves for far too long is the ability to bury your treasure. Well, now you are able to do that. It makes a whole new gameplay mechanic. Every time you bury several treasures, automatically you are going to make a treasure map. These maps are going to help you discover your treasure. Or they are able to be posted on a Quest Board for other pirates to discover. Do not worry. Letting other players search for your treasure will be able to give you a bigger reward.

Quest Boards

Talking about Quest Boards, they are new additions to Outposts and Seaposts. Here, you are able to find new quests or other players’ treasure maps, very perfect for starting a brand new adventure quickly. As explained before, if you return your treasure maps to a quest board, another player will be able to take them and search for your buried treasure. When they find successfully and take your loot, you are going to get an equal reward and renown.

Fireworks and Flares

It is time to celebrate the addition of Fireworks and Flares. Those additions are self-explanatory. Note that flares are able to help you warn other players or call for help. Those explosives are new elements to Sea of Thieves and look gorgeous at night.

Sitting

Finally, you are able to sit in the Sea of Thieves. There is no gameplay benefit to sitting down, however it does look pretty. This is only another little detail that Developer Rare has added to the Sea of Thieves game to make it more immersive. Now, you are able to sit pretty much anywhere. Several great places to sit can be the ship’s plank, a captain’s chair, or on the beach. You are a pirate, thus working hard is for losers, and sitting is for the winners.

Sleeping

Are you feeling tired or low on health? Ensure you discover a bed to restore some of your health. Eventually, now you are able to catch some shut-eye in Sea of Thieves. Sleeping will restore your health. However, it is still a handy little feature and makes beds helpful.

Whisper Horn

One of other cool features is the whisper horn. All you have to do is turn your horn around, so you are able to focus your voice on one player specifically. It is perfect enough for sneaking up on other players. Also, it is a smart way of adding a second use to your horn and creates the voice chat in game more dynamic.

New Battle Pass

Apparently, there are a hundred new items which you are able to unlock for free. Those are mostly cosmetic items and will provide you with loads of customization options. It is not frequently that Battle Passes are free, so this is very fantastic. Need to know that it will take a while to unlock every item. Thus, you better get started on completing this battle pass soon.

More Cosmetic items

Aside from the Battle Pass, you are able to unlock more cosmetic items such as Emissary and Emporium items. Of course, those have different unlock requirements. But, they are rather unique compared to other Cosmetic items. Please be sure to check out those unique items.

Captain Barbossa Outfit & other Pirates of The Caribbean Items

If you think that the last update was the end of Pirates of the Caribbean, then you are big wrong. Sea of Thieves Season 5 has more Pirates content for you to enjoy, including a Captain Barbossa Outfit. The other cosmetics range from the new weapons to a new animal companion. The animal is a popular mutinous dog, so you have to be careful bringing this animal on board.

New Emotes & Equipment Skins

For those who like taking photos with your crew, now you are able to use the Say Cheese emote to strike the nice pose. If you prefer to play music with your gang, now you are able to use the chilled instruments. Both are small updates, but still fun.

Three New Shantys

Apparently, there are three new songs for you to play with your crew. Those new shanties are Row Row Row Your Boat, the Ballad of the Mer, and Infernal Gallop. While you sail around this season 5, ensure you listen to those three new tunes.

Tree Outfit

Speaking of cosmetics, one free cosmetic which you are going to get as soon as you log in is the tree outfit. This tree outfit is horrifying looking. If you want a holiday outfit, this tree outfit is the easiest one to equip. You are going to look like a Christmas tree sailing the seven seas. However, occasionally the holiday spirit is more crucial.

Quality of Life Improvements

One great thing Developer Rare has focused on this season 5 is quality of life improvements. You are going to notice new inventory mechanics, more ammo drops from opponents, and improved loot markers while at sea. Those improvements to the game show Rare’s commitment to improving Sea of Thieves.
