Blue dragons are named as the third strongest of the chromatic dragons. They are only behind red dragons and black dragons. Here are the things that can be used to protect from blue dragon:

Damage Reduction:

  • Anti-Dragon Shield or Dragonfire Shield (permanent): This one offers high protection, reducing the dragonfire damage.
  • Antifire Potion (temporary, each dose lasts for 5 minutes, 45 seconds): This one offers temporary protection, reducing the damage with resistance similar to the one mentioned before. Sometimes, the dragon fire might burn you, getting moderate damage.

No Damage Taken:

    • Antifire Potion + Anti-Dragon or Dragonfire Shield: This method will not last long but it saves a decent amount of food considering how long each potion lasts. You are recommended to use it as you are able to use prayer flicking to Protect from Melee, eliminating 100% of damage.
    • Antifire Potion or Anti-Dragon or Dragonfire Shield + Protect from Magic: This one is not recommended because of the high cost of prayer potions. It is actually best for those who have a high prayer level. As an alternative, prayer flicking is an option. However, it makes you sensitive to melee attacks.
    • Super Antifire Potion: Compared to Antifire Potion, this one is more expensive. Even though it is not cheap, it is really effective to 100% protect from dragonfire. It allows the use of a better shield or defender.

Anti-Dragon Shield refers to one of the obtainable items. Duke Horacio is the one that you need to meet if you want to obtain it. He is able to be found in the Lumbridge Castle during the Dragon Slayer quest. When the quest comes to an end, this item is purchasable from Oziach. Regardless of the progress in the quest, everyone is able to obtain it as long as they have at least started Dragon Slayer to equip the shield.

The Dragonfire Shield is known as the upgraded version of the Anti-Dragon Shield. It is named as one of the best featured in the game, only lost to the Elysian Spirit Shield and Dinh’s Bulwark. In order to use it, at least 75 Defense level is needed. In addition to that, the player also needed to have started Dragon Slayer.

There are two special characteristics offered by the Dragonfire Shield. First, it is like a common Anti-Dragon Shield when it comes to protect from the dragonfire. Second, it is good at protecting against the icy breath of wyverns, just like the Dragonfire Ward, Elemental, Mind and Ancient Wyvern Shields.

When it comes to the Defense given by it, the Dragonfire Shield is such a unique one. If it is not charged, you can trade it. On the other hand, this shield is named as one of the best that the game has when it is fully charged.

The Dragonfire Shield is able to be changed by absorbing the dragonfire attacks while wearing it. For your information, each absorption can increase the defense of it by +1 up to +50 Defense increase. As for the Magic Defense of it, it will remain the same.

While it is true that the Drgaonfire Shield is not able to be traded when charged, with the current death mechanics, it will still be dropped on death if it is not protected.

A bit immunity to the breath of the dragon is given by the Antifire Potion. When it is combined with the Anti-Dragon Shield, the complex immunity against dragonfire will be provided for six minutes. As a player, you are able to make it with 69 Herblore by combining clean lantadyme, dragon scale dust, and water. It grants 157.5 Herblore experience. Remember that it is able to be only used after starting Dragon Slayer.

When the Antifire Potion is about to run out (5 minutes and 45 seconds), there will be a warning in the chatbox. When it runs out, another message will be seen. It is about 6 minutes in total. The message will notify that the Antifire Potion has expired. These messages are actually good to keep track of how long you have until you need to drink again.

It is worth nothing that the Antifire Potion is not enough to fully protect the players from dragonfire. The protection is limited, even one dragon can cause a decent damage to the player. To be fully protected, it is needed to combine it with the Anti-Dragon Shield or Dragonfire Shield.
