In case you cannot find swamp biomes to get slimes, then there is an alternative way to get a lead. If on your way you see a Wandering Trader who might meet you randomly, he has two llamas that are tied with leads. The leads will be dropped if you kill either the traders or the llamas. That’s the way you can get the lead. It might sound mean, but it is the only way that you can do it if you desperately need a lead.

In Minecraft, a lead is helpful to least up some different kinds of mobs and animals that you want to bring to a specific place. It is especially good for the ones that cannot be tamed, due to the fact that they will not follow you. We will be talking about how to make a lead or leash.

You can create a lead in every platform of Minecraft, such as PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Java Edition, Pocket Edition or PE, iPad, Bedrock Edition, as well as Nintendo Switch Edition.

If you want to get a lead in the game but you do not want to kill either the trader or the llamas, then you can try to make it. As stated before, you will have to gather 4 strings and 1 slimeball for the recipe to do so. Please put three of the strings in the top left corner slots, slimeball in the middle, and another string to the bottom right corner of the crafting table. All the materials can be obtained easily by hunting down spiders and slime.

Here is step-by-step guide that you will have to follow to make a lead in Minecraft

1. Get the string

String can be found easily, but you will usually have to be involved in some combat to get it. Here is the detail how to obtain it.

  • Look for cobwebs in Mines

For those who are near a deserted Mine, then there is a chance for you to discover a lot of them there. There are usually quite a bit of cobwebs in Mines and you can harvest them by hitting them with a sword. Aside from that, you can find at least one mine in the badlands or savanna biome. Please be careful because apparently, the cave spiders have spawners in caves.

  • Slay spiders for string

Smacking a few spiders around is the most traditional way to get the string. By smacking them, the string will be dropped as a loot. You are recommended to wait for night time and look around for them. The ones that have the red eyes are usually easy to notice. Be sure to have a sword by your side and hit them a few times with it and hope to get some string.

2. Get the slimeball

Now, it is time for you to find some slime mobs. They are quite difficult to find because they will only spawn in marshy biomes or deep underground in areas known as slime chunks. Swamps are recommended as they are easier. The slime chunks are really hard to find and you will be considered so lucky if you manage to run into one. Another way to find a slimeball is to have a bamboo jungle biome with pandas in it. There is a chance of baby pandas to drop a slimeball when sneezing. So, it is a good news for you.

3. Make a lead

As you have gathered all the materials to make a lead, the next thing that you will have to do is to place them in the crafting table. First of all, open the crafting table to bring up the 3×3 crafting grid. Please put both string and slimeball properly in the grid so that you can make a lead in the game. The slimeball should be located directly in the center square while the string should be put in the top left square, top middle square, middle left square, and bottom right square. After placing all the ingredients properly, the right box will show what is currently being crafted. In the end, you can move the lead to your inventory.

Make a lead

There are a lot of tools offered by Minecraft to good use. One of them is the lead. It is a tool that can be used as a leash. Some of the animals that you can leash include:

    • Cat
    • Bee
    • Chicken
    • Fox
    • Dolphin
    • Cow
    • Donkey
    • Hoglin
    • Horse, both Zombie and Skeleton one
    • Iron Golem
    • Llama & Trader Llama
    • Mooshroom
    • Mule
    • Ocelot
    • Sheep
    • Parrot
    • Polar Bear
    • Rabbit
    • Pig
    • Snow Golem
    • Squid, for Minecraft Bedrock Edition only
    • Strider
    • Zoglin
    • Wolf

The lead is able to be tied to a mob, and you can use it to move the mod around the map. It is even possible to work on both ends. You can tie the lead to a few things such as a fence so you can keep the mob from running off.

Talking about the lead, please keep in mind that it cannot be used on a villager, meaning you will not be able to pull them into a new location with them. If you are planning to move a villager, then you can try to use a mine cart or a boat to get the job done instead.

Another fact that you need to know about the lead is that it is able to be broken by pressing the use button on the target that you have on a leash, breaking the fence post where the lead has been attacked, or hitting the knot. If they are hit by an arrow, then they can also be broken.
