In case you cannot find swamp biomes to get slimes, then there is an alternative way to get a lead. If on your way you see a Wandering Trader who might meet you randomly, he has two llamas that are tied with leads. The leads will be dropped if you kill either the traders or the llamas. Please be careful because apparently, the cave spiders have spawners in caves.

Slay spiders for string
Smacking a few spiders around is the most traditional way to get the string. By smacking them, the string will be dropped as a loot. You are recommended to wait for night time and look around for them. The ones that have the red eyes are usually easy to notice. Be sure to have a sword by your side and hit them a few times with it and hope to get some string.
2. Get the slimeball
Now, it is time for you to find some slime mobs. They are quite difficult to find because they will only spawn in marshy biomes or deep underground in areas known as slime chunks. Swamps are recommended as they are easier. The slime chunks are really hard to find and you will be considered so lucky if you manage to run into one. Another way to find a slimeball is to have a bamboo jungle biome with pandas in it. There is a chance of baby pandas to drop a slimeball when sneezing. So, it is a good news for you.
3. Make a lead
As you have gathered all the materials to make a lead, the next thing that you will have to do is to place them in the crafting table. First of all, open the crafting table to bring up the 3×3 crafting grid. Please put both string and slimeball properly in the grid so that you can make a lead in the game. The slimeball should be located directly in the center square while the string should be put in the top left square, top middle square, middle left square, and bottom right square. After placing all the ingredients properly, the right box will show what is currently being crafted. In the end, you can move the lead to your inventory.
