How Many Times You Can Change Your Roof Color in Animal Crossing New Horizons
As explained on the GamesRadar site, you are only able to to change your roof color in Animal Crossing New Horizons everytime you upgrade your home. However, when you have reached the stage where you have two rooms in your home, you will be able to unlock home customization when you speak to Tom Nook at the Resident Services building.
If you want to reach that stage, you have to progress through the home upgrade projects as you can read below.

- You have to upgrade from the tent. Here, you need to pay off moving fees of 5,000 Miles.
- You need to build a new home. The mortgage fee is 98,000 Bells.
- You need to upgrade your home (single room size expansion). The mortgage fee is 198,000 Bells.
- You have to upgrade your home to include one additional room. The mortgage fee is 368,000 Bells.
- You must upgrade your home to include two additional rooms. The mortgage fee is 548,000 Bells.
If you have built that home with a second room, you have to walk into the Resident Services building and then Tom Nook will tell you about home customization. The cost is 5,000 Bells each time and you will be permitted to change your roof color and post box style/ color.

In Animal Crossing New Horizons, there are eight roof colors. Those are:

- Pink tile
- Yellow tile
- Green tile
- Aqua tile
- Blue tile
- Purple tile

The Steps to Change Your Roof Color
If you want to change your roof color in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you have to add extensions to your house. It can be done by speaking to Tom Nook and asking ‘about my home’. After you commision a new extension, then Tom Nook will ask whether you want to change your roof color.
The Steps to Change Your Roof Color Later On in the Game
As explained on the USGamer site, after you have unlocked the Town Hall, you are able to change your roof color whenever you want. You have to go inside and speak to Tom Nook and then you have to choose these things:

According to the USGamer site, if you change your roof color while buying an extension, you will not need to pay anything extra. However, if you go to Tom Nook to change things, the fee is 5000 Bells to swap out your roof color.
Upgrading Your House in Animal Crossing New Horizons
According to the Polygon site, Nook Miles will be accepted by Tom Nook as payment for your first loan. It covers your trip to the island and includes your tent. After that, you have to switch to Bells for all subsequent home loans and payments which you make via the Nook Stop’s ABD.
It is important for you to note that upgrading a house is not automatic. Before you are able to make your house bigger, you need to speak to Tom Nook and then you have to get a loan. After you pay off a loan, then you will be able to build the next house upgrade while you take on a new loan.
If you upgrade your home to the max, it can take a long time and millions of Bells. You need to know that as explained on the Polygon site, the total to upgrade your house from the beginning to finish in this game is 5.696 million Bells.
Moving to the Island in Animal Crossing New Horizons
After arriving on the island, as explained on the Polygon site, you will be given a tent by Tom Nook and you will be charged 5,000 Nook Miles for the pleasure of living there. You need to pay that off before proceeding to the next upgrade.
Upgrading Tent to House in Animal Crossing New Horizons
After you pay the 5,000 Nook Miles fee for moving to the island, then you need to speak to Tom Nook again and you will be offered to upgrade your tent to a house the following day.
As explained on the Polygon site, this upgrade will give you a six-by-six grid house with one room. 80 storage slots are also unlocked for your items and also a bird’s eye view to decorate your house with. Do you want to access storage? If so, you are able to press the right button on the D-pad. And then, you are able to access the advanced decorating system by hitting on the D-pad.
For this upgrade, you have to pay 98,000 Bells. Note that you will not be able to make any additional house upgrades until you pay this loan.
Upgrading The Size of House in Animal Crossing New Horizons
If you upgrade the size of the house, it means that you upgrade the main room in your house to an eight by eight grid. According to the Polygon site, Forty more storage slots are unlocked for your home, for a total of 120. The Bells that you have to pay is 198,000 Bells and you are not allowed to make further additions until the loan is paid off.
Adding Back Room
A six by six grid room can be added to the back of your house and also an additional 120 storage slots for a total of 240.
You need 348,000 Bells for this upgrade and same as the previous rule that you cannot add more rooms until you pay this.
Adding Left Room in Animal Crossing New Horizons
It can add a six by six room to the left side of your house. 120 storage slots are added and brings the total to 360. When you get your left room, you can begin to customize the mailboxes and roof color of your house. It can be done by talking to Tom Nook about your house and choosing ‘I want to customize’. The cost for renovations is 5,000 Bells and all changes will occur one day after you put the order.
If you have got your left room, then you can get your mailbox and move it. You have to walk up to it and then hit Y.
This addition requires you to pay 548,000 Bells and you will be able to customize your mailbox and roof.
