A Microsoft account is the name of the account that can be used to sign in to services provided by no one other than Microsoft through one username (email) and password. Before you are able to use the online tools and the service of Microsoft, you will have to make a Microsoft account, here is the easy way to create it.
For those who have a Hotmail account or any other account that allows you to use any other services of Microsoft like Xbox Live or OneDrive, it means you already have a Microsoft account and you can just sign in with the account information that already exists.
If you want to create a Microsoft account, the first thing that you will have to do is to go to login.live.com, find and choose Sign up now. By doing so, it will make the sign up form appear. Please follow the directions and type in the required information such as your name, your birth date, and your gender. After that, review the Microsoft Services Agreement and privacy statement and the click Create account. Your Microsoft account is now made, and the page settings of it will show up. When you are trying to create an account, please keep an eye on the password. Just like any other online services, it is better for you to select a strong password, meaning the one that is hard for someone else to guess.
Once you have created a Microsoft account, you will be directed to the Microsoft account settings page. if you want to use the features and the services of your Microsoft account such as Messenger and OneDrive, the first thing that should be done is to access your profile page.
To be able to access the profile page, you will need to find and choose the profile icon located in the top right corner of the screen and then choose Edit profile from the drop down menu. The step will make the profile page appear. From this stage, you are able to access the toolbar, which will help you to navigate the online services of Microsoft.
If you want to use the toolbar, you can just click the drop down arrow that can be found in the top left corner to open a menu of Microsoft services such as Mail (either Outlook or Hotmail), People (contacts), Calendar, and OneDrive (used to be called SkyDrive). Please click the service that you want to use to get started. Then, click the icons in the top right corner to access Messenger, your profile settings, and the Gear icon that controls the individual settings for every Microsoft service.
After setting up your Microsoft account and become familiar with the toolbar, you may want to customize and add some information to your personal profile. Apparently, your profile is considered as a personal information page that will be linked to your Microsoft account. This one can contain basic information such as your birth date and gender; additional contact information; personal information about your social life, your work, and your education, and connections to social networking sites like Facebook.
Actually, filling in your profile is not required, it is completely optional so you do not have to do it if you do not want to. You are actually not recommended to add too much detailed personal information. However, it could be useful in some situations when your profile has some personal information. Feel free to decide how much you want to share.
If you want to access and edit your profile, it can be done easily by clicking the profile icon located in the upper right corner and then choosing Edit profile from the drop down menu.
Can you add a profile picture? What should be done if you want to do it? In order to add a profile picture, the first thing that should be done is to navigate to your profile page, find and choose Change picture. The step will make the profile picture page show up. Once it appears, please click the Choose File button. then, a dialog box will be displayed on the screen. You will have to locate and choose the picture that you want and then click Open. Clicking the Open button will make the picture appear. If you want, you are able to drag and resize the box to crop the image. When you crop the picture, there is a preview of the cropped image that can be seen on the left side. Once you are satisfied with the cropped image, all that you have to do is to click the Save button and your profile picture will be saved.
The good thing about a Microsoft account is where it can be used. Most people believe that it is available only on the Microsoft products when actually it is not. A lot of products and services of Microsoft work best when they are connected to your Microsoft account. For those who are using a phone or a tablet, your account is able to be used to unlock the potential of non-Microsoft products and do things that you never thought possible.
For example, you can ask Cortana on your Surface, running Windows 10, to notify you to pick up something from the market on your way home from work. The Cortana app is able to be easily downloaded on any phone, sign in with your Microsoft account, and instantly get access to the reminder setup from the Surface. It is just a simple example of how you are able to do a lot of things with the current technology just by using a Microsoft account.
Tons of apps and services across some different devices are available to use with a Microsoft account from Windows to Office and apps on your mobile devices. There are thousands of possibilities to unlock. Exploring is the best way to find what you can do.
