About Hell Let Loose
According to Wikipedia, here is what you need to know about Hell Let Loose. Hell Let Loose is a multiplayer FPS video game where the developer is Australian Studio Black Matter. Team17 is the publisher of the game. In this game, you fight in iconic battles of the Western and Eastern Fronts of World War 2 at the platoon level. In 2017, this game was announced through a successful Kickstarter campaign and it raised US$220,000. Initially, this game was released for Microsoft Windows as an early access title on June 6th, 2019 and the full release was in July 2021. Then, in October 2021, this game was released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
As explained on Wikipedia, in the game, matches are 50 vs. 50 combined arms battles between two teams of Germans and Americans, and, more recently since the full release of the game, Soviets. Each of them consists of some smaller rifle squads of six soldiers, armoured squads of three soldiers, or recon squads of two soldiers. There are two game modes in the game as of October 2019. Those game modes are Warfare and Offensive. In these modes, the map is divided into sectors which each team seeks to catch and control.
In the Warfare mode, you are able to win the game by controlling all sectors at a given point in time. Another way to win the game in this mode is by controlling a majority of them when the timer runs out which is basically functioning as a capture flag. How about in the Offensive mode? In this mode, a defending team is in control of all sectors at the start of the match and the goal for the opposing side is to catch all of them before the timer runs out.
In this game, Communication is aimed as a central gameplay aspect by the developers. Each unit is able to be led by a single officer who is able to communicate with other officers and the commander through a leadership voice channel. There are also unit-only and proximity voice channels. As a player, you also have access to team-wide and unit level text chat as an alternative to voice communication.
In this game, it also features a RTS-inspired resource-based strategic meta-game. Each of the two factions who fight will be given a commander and the commander is not only responsible to the team and squads, but tank deployments, air strikes, and orders. However, these orders need resources.
Resource nodes are able to be built by using supplies by engineers. It is done to improve the production of resources and to be able to deploy more tanks, air strikes and orders to help the team to fight on the battlefield. However, they are able to be taken down if they are found by the enemy team.
How about the maps in this game? The maps are created based on historical WWII theaters of war by combining satellite imagery, archival aerial photography and street-level recreation. The developers state that the map for Norman town Sainte-Marie-du-Mont is “a 1:1 scale battlefield” recreated through the aforementioned methods.
