If you are facing the Reporter Failure condition from a Honeywell Lyric Controller, stay calm and keep reading this post until the end as you will be guided how to clear it. Before anything, you might want to get a piece of paper first to write down something.
Before going to the method to fix the issue, it is better for you to know more about the Reporter Failure first. A Reporter Failure is the kind of issue that shows up when the Lyric System is unable to send a report to AlarmNet through the enabled communication path within the time period set for the Old Alarm Time setting. When there is a Reporter Failure, you will be able to hear the beep sound every single minute. Not only that, you will also be able to see a message written Reporter Failure shown on the screen. It does not really matter the current arming state of the system as it will always occur. If you are annoyed by the sound and want to silence it, feel free to press any key. Apart from the beep sound, another thing that indicates that the system experienced a Reporter Failure is the message E354 Fail to Communicate in the Event Log of the system. Apparently, this issue is able to be cleared fully by establishing a proper communication path as the first step. After the first step, then arming and disarming. It should be noted that the problem will make an appearance every time the Lyric fails to get an acknowledgement of a report to AlarmNet. Is t able to be fixed permanently? The good news is that, there is a way to do it, which is to establish a functional communication path for the system.
When your Lyric System has a Reporter Failure, it means that the system failed in communication with AlarmNet. Due to the fact that the system has to communicate with AlarmNet so that the activity of any system can be forwarded to a central station, this issue should be fixed. Besides, it is also needed for the system to communicate with AlarmNet in order to get any text and or email alerts from Total Connect 2.0. Basically, if you are experiencing a Reporter Failure issue, it means your monitoring service is not working well because there is an issue in communication that affects the system that you have.
When there is a Reporter Failure, you can start fixing the issue by considering how your system communicates with AlarmNet360. You should know that there is a possibility of the extended internet outage to cause a Reporter Failure condition if the system is IP only. In fact, internet outages are common things and they can happen even if there is a reliable internet. Those who do not have a reliable internet are recommended to use cellular communication with the Lyric System. Not only is much more reliable, the cellular communication can decrease the chance of experiencing an extended outrage if the system as long as the system is getting a strong cellular signal. Adding a cellular communication is needed if you want to use a cellular communication with the Lyric System. There are two recommended options to choose from, which is the Honeywell LYRICLTE-A (AT&T LTE) or the Honeywell LYRICLTE-V (Verizon LTE). Feel free to choose any network that is more reliable in your area and it does not really matter which carrier you choose for a mobile phone. Plus, you will also have to get an alarm monitoring plan that has cellular service. If you are one of the customers of Alarm Grid, your options include Gold or Platinum Level monitoring plan (self or full).
In case you have set up the cellular communication and there is a Reporter Failure issue, please check if there were any service outages in your area. While it is unlikely, it is still possible that a cellular tower near you was damaged and preventing the cellular module of your system from communicating properly.
For everyone who are facing the Reporter Failure trouble from a Lyric Alarm System, you can fix the issues by following these following steps:
-
- First and foremost, you will have set a reliable communication path. For those who are using IP-only, you can consider adding cellular as a backup communication path. In case the cellular communication is already been used by your system, you have to check to see if there was a service outage in your area. Aside from that, you will also have to see if your system is getting strong cellular signals. If the cellular signals are not strong, adding either a cellular amplifier or a cellular antenna might be a good idea. Do not forget to set the proper Communication Path. In addition to that, it might also be needed for you to ask your monitoring company to extend the Old Alarm Time period in order to make your system has time when trying to communicate. After getting a reliable communication path set up for the system, please move on to the next step.
- The second step is to select Security from the main screen of the Lyric System. Next, choose either Arm Away or Arm Stay. Then, enter a valid code to arm the system and then press Disarm during the Exit Delay Countdown. After that, enter the same code to disarm. By doing so, the system should disarm. When you see that the system is communication successfully, the Reporter Failure condition should be no longer around.
- It is a must to make sure that the Reporter Failure condition cleared from the system. If it is not, it means the system is not communicating with AlarmNet successfully. In this case, the best thing that you can do is to go back to Step 1 and be sure to configure the system properly to be able to communicate properly.
It should be easy for you to fix the Reporter Failure issue by following the guide above. Go seek help from the one that knows the experts.
